IMPORTANT YEAR 6 DATES AND INFORMATION.

Dear Parents,

The week of SATS (8th May) is nearly upon us and the children have all worked extremely hard to prepare and ‘show off’ all they know.

Every morning, during SATs week Y6 children should arrive at school by 8:30a.m. The children can come into their classroom, have a biscuit and juice and prepare themselves for the day ahead. It also gives the children chance to calm their nerves and for us to reassure any children who might be feeling a little nervous or anxious. The SATs tests will start at 9:00am promptly so we do ask that the children arrive in school for 8:30am to avoid any rushing around and lateness.

How to help your child during SATs week;

Make sure they get enough sleep.

  • Make sure they eat breakfast.
  • Emphasise that SATs are an opportunity to show off all we know.
  • Encourage them to ask if they are unsure about anything.

If you have any further questions or queries about SATs week, please come and see me or give me a ring.

Thank you for all your support in preparation for the SATs week.

On the Friday afternoon of SATs week we would like to have a little celebration to mark the end of SATS. Please could your child bring in one item from the following list on the Friday morning to help us celebrate? (bottle of lemonade/coke etc., multipack of crisps, chocolate bars, cakes, biscuits or sweets)

Here is a timetable for SATs week;

MONDAY
8th MAY / TUESDAY
9th MAY / WEDNESDAY
10th MAY / THURSDAY
11th MAY / FRIDAY
12th MAY
READING TEST / GRAMMAR, PUNCTUATION AND SPELLING
TESTS / MATHS ARITHMETIC PAPER
MATHS REASONING PAPER / MATHS REASONING PAPER / POST SATS CELEBRATION!

After SATS we have lots of exciting opportunities in Year 6; one of which is our ‘Passport for safer cycling’ training scheme, which will take place during the week of 19th June. Children will need to bring their bikes in to school each day this week (Monday – Thursday).

The scheme is designed to enable young cyclists to develop a greater understanding of road usage and to cycle with an improved degree of safety. Myself, Mrs Turner and Mrs Teague will be running the training scheme, which will be based on the school playground.

The focus is not on teaching the children how to ride a bike but how to ride safely on the roads. Therefore if your child lacks confidence or is a little ‘wobbly’ they may benefit from a little practise at home before then.

On Thursday 25thMay children will be asked to bring their bikes and helmets to school for the required ‘bike check’ which ensures bikes meet safety requirements.

The dates for our Tower Wood visit are Wednesday 28th June – Friday 30th June. A kit list is attached (remember – lots of OLD, warm clothes). Final arrangements will be sent out a little nearer the time.

Many thanks

Mrs Hodgson
