Course: Español II

Room E13 Year: 2016-2017

Welcome to my class! I hope your child had a great summer and will have a productive school year. If you have any questions you can call me at the school 901-373-2620 or e-mail me at I look forward to working with each of you to help your child succeed both in school and in life!

Important elements of class you should be aware of:

Big Goal for the Year: By the end of the year, every student will be able to hold a 15-minute conversation using no English. They will be able to ask and answer questions in the language and talk about things they have done in the past and will do in the future.

My objective in class is to prepare every student to be able to walk out of level one Spanish and have the option to use beyond just an academic setting. They will not be fluent. Many students may not be able to speak fluently for 15 minutes, but they should be able to sit down with a person and exchange meaningful communication for 15 min. Fluid speech can come later, but the ability to communicate is nonnegotiable.

“A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.”

Colin Powell

Grading:

Grades will on a point system:

Tests will be worth 100 points

Quizzes are worth 50 points

Homework and class work is generally worth 10 points, though important bits of homework may be worth more and will be announced as such.

Each quarter’s grade will be worth 40% of the semester grade, with the exam being worth the other 20%

Replacing Test and Quiz Grades:

Should a student fail a test or quiz (i.e. score less than a 70), they may choose to retake it, provided that occurs within 2 days. The student retake score will not exceed an 80.

  1. Follow all rules of Bartlett High School.
  2. No personal grooming, eating, or drinking, unless the lesson calls for that.
  3. Treat others and their property with dignity and respect.
  4. NO CELL PHONES!!!

2nd offense – I will be email or call to parent

3rd offense – referral to an administrator

Late Work

Assignments will only receive full credit on their due date. Late homework or classwork is not accepted unless student has an excused absence.

Make Up Work:

Students need to get their make up work when they return to school. It is the student’s responsibility.

Cheating: I have a NO TOLERANCE cheating policy. Anyone caught cheating in any way will have an automatic zero on the assignment and honor code violation.
