Key Objectives & Responsibilities
To provide day-to-day managerial support to the numerous employees working on the site which you are managing; ensuring the resources needed are supplied and used in the best possible way within the social and legal frameworks as highlighted by MGL Group.
A site manager may be responsible for a whole site or with larger schemes, may be required to oversee part of a project and report to a more senior manager, taking care of numerous projects at the same time.
As site manager you will be responsible for the daily monitoring/overseeing of sites for which you are accountable for. This involves the managing, planning, organising, monitoring and controlling of the site through to completion.
In addition, you will be accountable for achieving the agreed level of gross margin, ensuring compliance with company principles, procedures and legislation; guaranteeing best practice from all site employees to the highest standards of Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality within the site operations under your control and to deliver a high value safe project for the client on behalf of the company and the team.
In conjunction with this you will need to liaise effectively with all disciplines, i.e. surveying, buying, planning, HR, Health and Safety, to ensure effective management of contracts and delivery of products to the program.
Key Tasks
1 / General Tasks
  • Implement all Health, Safety and the Environment legislation, as contained within the Health & Safety Management System
  • Actively leading by example as a representative of the Company; ensuring that all working relationships with internal and external customers are consistent and perform to the highest standards
  • Ensuring the company gets the best out of its sub – contractors and suppliers
  • Ensuring the correct correspondence is in place to protect the company’s commercial and contractual position
  • To ensure all activities the company’s processes/standards laid down in the Business Quality Management System are adhered to.
  • To fulfil responsibilities in accordance with the project allocation of responsibilities
  • Management of quality control and inspection of the work being carried out
  • To report all accidents or incidents that warrant entry into the site accident book and within 24 hours to the contracts manager
  • Record any changes.

2 / Pre- Site Start
  • Advise and assist in finding safe construction/ demolition solutions, taking into account programme information.
  • Develop and implement the construction phase Health and Safety plan
  • Develop and implement the project management plan
  • To provide input to the sub-contractors risk assessment including referencing where possible the standard of quality to be achieved

3 / During the works
  • To plan, organise, control and co-ordinate projects to satisfy safe completion
  • Develop the Project Management Plan
  • Mark up the project programme on a weekly basis
  • Review, daily the weekly work plan and brief trade supervision on action required
  • Ensuring work does not commence before Risk Assessments, Task safety Plans and Method Statements are issued and agreed
  • To ensure all activities critical to the success of the site are executed and delivered to the agreed programme
  • Administer reports and keep site records required by company procedures and statute
  • To keep appropriate documentation and correspondence
  • To actively monitor subordinate site staffs performance to ensure high standards of health and safety, workmanship and efficiency are abided by
  • To implement procedures to ensure total client satisfaction upon completion
  • To ensure labour relations are held at the highest level and where necessary invoke dispute resolution procedures
  • Record regular site briefing meetings and on – site Tool box talks
  • To ensure focus is maintained on the forecast final financial position

4 / Post Completion
  • Carry out comprehensive internal and external post completion reviews, reporting all aspects of the projects performance and giving feedback to the relevant disciplines
  • Where necessary to establish and implement the strategy for the rapid resolution of defects and the earliest return on retentions

Qualifications/
Requirements /
  • A Full UK Driving Licence is required
  • 4 - 6 years industrial experience before going into construction management – previously working as a supervisor or technician
  • Appropriate NVQ relating to role
  • CSCS Card holder – Minimum Supervisory level
  • CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme
  • A degree, or an HND, HNC
  • A member of Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Graduate Diploma Programme or qualified to NVQ Level 6 in Construction Management
  • First Aid training

Experience & Knowledge /
  • Excellent knowledge of health and safety regulations, NHBC requirements and Building regulations
  • Previously managed a team of operatives at managerial / supervisory level
  • Good knowledge, understanding and experience of dealing with all issues relating to customer care
  • Proven track record of having previously managed successful sites.

Key Skills /
  • Must be able to plan work well
  • Prepared for responsibility and decision making
  • Highly numerate with good IT skills- including use of Microsoft excel, word and outlook
  • Able to manage and motivate people from all levels
  • Ability to prioritise tasks to meet changing needs on site
