Paper Bag Fantasy Book Report

For this book report, you will have 3 main components:

  1. The paper bag with requirements for both the front and back sides,
  2. the artifacts in your bag, and
  3. written information/explanations

Front of paper bag: You will need to include the following on the front of your bag.

  1. Your name
  2. Title
  3. Author
  4. A hand-drawn picture that is related to the book. Include a caption that explains what your drawing is about. For a 4, connect to the words and phrases used by the author that helped you to see this picture in your mind. Include this explanation on the paper inside of your bag.

Back of the paper bag: You will need to identify the elements of fantasy. What elements are not realistic?

  1. Elements and questions to include:
  • Characters: What characters are not real? Are there talking animals? Are there mythical beings?
  • Magic: Is there magic? Do any characters have magical powers
  • Setting: Describe the setting. Is it one that could really exist?
  • Quest: A quest is an adventure or a journey that a character must embark on to learn important information about him/herself and the world. Is there a quest in your story?
  • Good vs. Evil: Often in fantasy stories, good must face evil. Sometimes this can be metaphorical e.g. light vs. a shadow. List the forces of good and evil in your story.

Inside the paper bag:

  1. Artifacts: You will need four items inside you bag that represent something from the book. Three of the items must be homemade. Be creative! List each item on the written portionyou include inside the bag and tell how it is connected to your story.
  1. Written portion:
  2. List and describe the main characters. For a 4, tell me about the role each main character plays in the plot. What do others think of the character? What does s/he say or do? What kind of character is s/he? Use text evidence to support your claims.
  3. Describe the conflict, problem, or issue For a 4, go more in-depth with you plot analysis. Specifically what type of conflict is in your book? Is it internal or external? Who is involved? What happens as the characters try to solve the conflict?
  4. Tell how the conflict is resolved. What happens after the conflict is solved and where does the story end?
