Let Your Mind Be Transformed

We relate to God in our spirit and mind

(Romans 12: 1-2) 1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

– We have two receptors that relate to God: the mind and the spirit.

  • If we allow our mind to predominate, we will filter what the Holy Spirit says to us with logic first. In other words, we will only do what the Holy Spirit prompts if it is logical to us. This thinking will hinder our walk with Christ.
  • If we allow our spirit to predominate, we will take what the Holy Spirit says to us and live it out. Our spirit will cry out to God for strength to do what is not logical to our mind. By following the spirit, we can truly experience the good pleasing will of God.
  • When we are saved, our spirit is saved, but our mind and emotions are not. Hence, it is our daily struggle to deny the mind and emotions to follow the spirit.

we must be radically transformed

– The Greek word for transformed is “metamorpho.” The change can be compared to that of a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. The change is radical, when the caterpillar decides to change into butterfly, he is completely changed forever; he will have little resemblance to his former life as a caterpillar.

– We must embrace radical change in our Christian lives. If we do not, we will filter the Holy Spirit’s promptings to us through our mind. Over time, we will lose our passion and first love for Jesus.

– When Pastor Demian first accepted Christ, he was radical for God. He did whatever the Holy Spirit prompted him. His church leaders encouraged him to “mature” and be logical in his actions. When he allowed his logical mind to dominate, he lost his passion for God.

We must think like a kingdom person

(1 Corinthians 2:6-9,11) 6 We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7 No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. 8 None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

– The wisdom of God is mysterious; we cannot understand it with our minds. To understand the wisdom of God, the Holy Spirit must reveal wisdom to our spirit.

– We must be touched by the Holy Spirit’s fire, having knowledge alone will not suffice. Our spirits must arise and be alive doing the Holy Spirit’s work.

– If we our merely busy with the world, our hearts will die. The Chinese character for busy consists of the characters “dead” and “heart”.

We are called to arise in Spirit

– God calls us to transform our minds and let our spirits arise to commune with the Holy Spirit. We must embrace the change that is to come. We must cry out to God to activate our spirits.

– The Bible is filled with impossible events; God wants us to expect impossible events.

– Story: In medical school, Pastor Demian’s Muslim friend asked him if it was true that Jesus commanded His followers to do what He did and more. Pastor Demian felt ashamed that he did not live up this command and he prayed that God would speed up his spiritual growth and give him boldness to fulfill this command.

we are in the fullness of time season

– In 2012, we are in the fullness of time season. God revealed these things to Pastor Demian.

  • Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) 2008-2009: Stock market will crash. God will confront the principality of our financial system.
  • Rosh Hashanah 2009-2010: What can be shaken will be shaken.
  • Rosh Hashanah 2009-2010: Believers that have kept watch for God’s kingdom will release the midnight cry.
  • Referencing Matthew 25, parable of the 10 virgins, believers will fall into 3 categories
  • Those who did not fall asleep waiting for the bridegroom Jesus (they will keep watch for God’s kingdom and will release the midnight cry).
  • Those that fell asleep, but were wise enough to have enough oil of intimacy to meet Jesus.
  • Those that fell asleep, but were foolish and did not have enough oil of intimacy to meet Jesus.
  • November 11, 2011: God will call all believers who are awake in the Spirit to arise. These believers will not bow to the enemy and surrender to temptation. They will align with Jesus and with each other. They will fit in the body of Christ as God pleases and become an army, blowing trumpets to awaken dry bones. They will follow Jesus as their commander in chief.

we must sync with god and other believers

– Pastor Demian had a dream where he saw the Holy Spirit call the church remnant in many parts of the world to meet in a specific place on a specific date. The dream revealed that although we may not know believers physically, our hearts are connected in the Holy Spirit.

– Like an iCloud, we can “sync” with all believers around the world in the Holy Spirit when we take on the mind of Christ.

– When we “sync” with God, we can choose to download selected files or download all. We should select to download all.

 ACTION PLAN

  1. The Chinese character for “busy” is translated as “dead heart.” Ask the Lord to reveal hindrance in your heart that had taken your first love for Him. If so, repent and ask the Lord for grace to restore the “first love.” (You may use Romans 12:1-2 and Isaiah 60:1-2 to pray and proclaim).
  2. Ask the Lord to reveal one thing He wants you to do every day. Even if the idea sounds “crazy” (illogical) to your mind (as long as it does not conflict with the Biblical truth), learn to follow the Holy Spirit and do it. Share your experience with your group.

Discussion Questions

  1. After listening to the message, can you identify yourself as one who filters the things of God with your mind? According to 1 Corinthians 2:6-16 who can know the mind of God?
  2. Have you ever done something because your heart told you to even though your mind didn't like? Please share.
  3. Do you feel like that caterpillar putting two fake wings on, trying to fly on its own strength? According to the message, how can the caterpillar transform into a butterfly? What does Romans 12:1-2 say about this, and the prerequisite to know the good and perfect will of God?
