Know :

·  Be able to discuss at least 4 of our bodies 1st line defenses

·  Be able to discuss the difference between Active and Passive Immunity

·  Be able to give examples of how you get Active and Passive Immunity

·  Know how these early Scientists helped us learn more about Infectious diseases- Louis Pasteur, Robert Koch, and Joseph Lister

·  Know the 4 types of pathogens that cause infectious diseases

·  Discuss what a biological vector is and how it can transmit the disease

·  Discuss the 4 ways to spread an infectious disease

·  Discuss ways to boost our Immune system and generally stop the spread of Infectious Diseases

·  Know the difference between Infectious and Non Infectious Diseases

·  Know some Non Infectious Diseases- what they are and how they are treated (Cancer, Allergies and Diabetes)

·  Know which STDs are bacterial and which are Viral- (gonorrhea, syphilis herpes, HIV)

·  Know the difference between an Active and Latent Virus

·  Know what CDC stands for and how it helps us stops the spread of disease

·  Be able to discuss our Immunity Simulation Lab- know what an Antigen is and how antibodies and produced to fight Antigens. Antibodies are specific and bind to the antigen and deactivate the antigen. WBCs then come along and engulf the Antigen. In our lab the Antigen was the red dye, Antibody was the lemon juice and Vinegar. WBC was the Antacid.
