Joint Conference Meeting #2 Minutes --- 20 September 2017 @ 9:18 PM

I. Attendance

  • all present except Malone Mislak (Senior Senate) with an excused absence

II. SAC (Student Athlete Advisory Committee)

  • representatives – Mia () and Mickey @
  • what they do: (i) compare sports notes and trainings, and etc., (ii) address issues, (iii) serve as representatives at every SGA joint conference meeting (perm. reps.)
  • this will be great for SGA because we barely have student athlete representation

III. Caroline Dunn, Director of Community Outreach

  • introducing two speakers for today --- Nick and Kyle
  • for future joint conference speaker coordination contact Caroline Dunn @

IV. Nick, The Greyhound @

  • “we want to cover the news and there is no way better than SGA to help promote us” --- Nick
  • presented in conjunction with Angie (copy-editor)
  • recently released an article on Boulder renovations
  • generally, tries to cover: sports, arts & society, movie reviews, show reviews, and opinion section
  • They Greyhound is open to ALL opinions – Angie, “we want to be an actual news source on campus and actually be voice”
  • weekly newsletter --- will send out 3 best news articles of the week every Sunday
  • Nick would genuinely love to hear about anything happening on campus and would like to cover everything

V. Kyle Hand, The Short Film Club @ (faculty advisor --- Chris Singlemann)

  • Kyle realized that people want to express themselves through writing, acting, and etc., but they were cut from theatre or didn’t have open access or opportunities, and so he created this to encompass the nature of being the ultimate collaboration of creators of campus
  • essence of this club --- “not about being perfect, but about being good and having fun”
  • logistics
  • bi-weekly meetings
  • writing and shooting films on a rolling basis
  • each of each semester --- mini film fest
  • Reading Room, comfy chairs, snacks
  • fundraising --- since SGA has good, cool fundraising ideas, maybe collab. and etc.

VI. Jack Finnegan, Director of Academic Affairs

  • Applying for the Real World --- 4 October @ 5-7 PM, McGuire
  • job/career opportunities --- an event for first years-seniors
  • great time to network and learn about Career Center’s new initiatives and programs
  • sign-up link will be on Facebook
  • we are struggling to get professors to sign-up and participate, but if you could find your favorite professor, approach them, and ask them to come to this event --- would be much appreciated
  • there is a RVSP link for faculty

VII. Nick Palozzolo, Senior Class President & Hannah Flury, Junior Class President

  • Ashley S. --- class year discernment, Student Engagement
  • Milestone Fair
  • there are different paths for different class years and also paths that apply to all class-years
  • Nick and Hannah will be running the class year photo booths
  • “you will get something out of this” --- Nick

VIII. Committee Presentations

  • Ayana, Director of Diversity
  • goals --- to craft an inclusive environment and program to educate and explore different areas of diversity on campus
  • wants to focus on multiple areas --- race, mental health, religious diversity, and etc.
  • meeting frequency --- TBD based on schedules
  • Eliana and Ellen, Co-Directors of Sustainability
  • goals --- advocating for environmental action on campus
  • some projects --- eliminate inconsistent waste management process, improving signs on campus, and etc.
  • meeting frequency --- bi-weekly
  • Amy, Director of Student Affairs
  • goals --- dining services, transportation, student wellness, campus safety, facilities, and the Career Center
  • get at least one rep from each class year
  • wants a few Senators to help with more advocacy and policy aspects
  • meeting frequency --- bi-weekly that works with everyone’s schedules (first meeting ASAP)
  • Calla, VP of Social Affairs
  • goals --- Loyolapalooza Committee (Palooza date --- April 29th)
  • meeting frequency --- bi-weekly on Sundays, but once closer to event date, then meetings will take place on a weekly basis
  • Stephanie, Director of Community Outreach
  • goals --- to better relations and work with both the Loyola and Baltimore community through various events and services
  • i.e. Turkey Drive, Halloween Block Party
  • meeting frequency --- TBD based on committee schedule
  • Jack, Director of Academic Affairs
  • goals --- to collaborate on academic issues at Loyola that he will bring to Academic Senate and the UCC
  • to develop and plan initiatives and events related to academics
  • to serve as possible proxies
  • there is absolutely much to do, and would like to delegate
  • meeting frequency --- bi-weekly, and more often if serving as a proxy
  • Mark, VP of Student Advocacy will chair the Technology Advisory Committee
  • goals --- printing situation, oversee the implementation of new printers, advertise printing situation, improve wi-fi, identity the problem and solve
  • meeting frequency --- bi-weekly
  • Sarah, Director of Student Equity @
  • goals --- advocating for students on issues, specifically regarding gender, sexuality, sexual assault, domestic violence, mental health, and to conduct awareness campaigns
  • first big event --- Consent Week
  • will work with Paralympic Swim Team for Disability Awareness Week
  • meeting --- maybe weekly or bi-weekly (depends on events and schedule)
  • LOOKING FOR STUDENT SPEAKERS WITH INTIMATE KNOWLEDGE OF SEXUAL ASSAULT/RELATIONSHIP VIOLENCE OR A SURVIOR
