Westchester/Putnam County CYO Basketball Rules for 2014-2015
Finalized at CYO Coordinators Meeting on September 22, 2014
These Rules may differ from the NY Archdiocese CYO basketball rules, which may be found at CYO Programs/Basketball.
1. PRESSING RULE:
Teams may use front court press only under these conditions:
Grade / A and B Divisions / C Divisions3 / Last minute of 4th Quarter

2. THREE POINT LINE:
For all 7th and 8th grade teams, if the court has the 3 point line, then the game must be played with the 3 point shot.
3. BALL SIZE:
Teams / Ball SizeGirls 3rd - 8th Grade / 28.5” (Woman’s standard)
Boys 3rd - 5th Grade / 28.5” (Woman’s standard)
Boys 6th – 8th Grade / 29.5” (Men’s standard)
4. FOUL LINE:
Teams / Foul LineGirls 3rd - 6th Grade / 12 Feet from backboard
Girls 7t h - 8th Grade / 15 Feet from backboard
Boys 3rd - 5th Grade / 12 Feet from backboard
Boys 6th - 8th Grade / 15 Feet from backboard
5. FOUL BONUS:
Bonus is always one-and-one beginning with the 7th foul.
6. FOUL SHOOTING: (New for 2014-2015)
Players lined up in the free throw lane can enter upon release of the ball by the foul shooter. The foul shooter still needs to wait for the ball to hit the rim.
7. AMOUNT OF TIME IN A QUARTER:
Teams / TimeGirls and Boys 3rd - 6th Grade / 6 minutes
Girls and Boys 7rd - 8th Grade / 7 minutes
8. SCORE:
- Opposing coaches are asked to communicate with each other in keeping the scorerespectable in unbalanced games. The table below outlines the allowed victory margin:

Girls and Boys 3rd - 5th Grade / No more than 15 points
Girls and Boys 6rd - 8th Grade / No more than 20 points
- Please assign a volunteer to report your game scores results online.
- The exact score does not need to be reported. A score of 2 to 0 should be used for a win, UNLESS the victory margin is more than specified in the table above.
- In ALL cases where the final score differential exceeds the victory margin limit, the Coordinator of the winning team MUST send the County Director, Frank Magaletta an explanation.
9. TIME OUTS:
Four timeouts per team per game are allowed.
10. COACHES PER TEAM:
Up to two coaches ONLY may sit on the bench.
11. C DIVISIONS(New for 2014-2015)
- C Orange Division is for more competitive C teams and will be eligible for season-end playoffs.
- C Blue Division is for teams with a 500 or lower record in previous season and will not be eligible for season-end playoffs.
12. PLAYOFFS:
- Any team with two forfeits during the season will be ineligible for playoffs.
- All team fees must be paid before a team is eligible for playoffs.
13. MOVING TO NEW DIVISION:
- Regular Season 1st and 2nd place teams must move up to the next higher division the following season.
- Any team with a 500 Record or better may not move down a division the following season
14. OFFICIALS
Official Fees per game (contract through 2016):

- Each team (Home and Away) will pay one official
- Always contact your Supervisor of Officials - to discuss a problem with any officialat your gym.
- No official can work more than 4 games at your gymnasium.
- Please makesure to have the officials sign their full name in the scorebook.All Supervisors of Officials
have been notified of this requirement.
15. GAME CANCELLATIONS:
Games Cancellation due to reasonable reasons must be called in to your Official Supervisor by 7pm on the Wednesday preceding a weekend game, or by 7pm on the day 3 days prior to a weekday games. If this procedure is not followed, the team cancelling is at risk of forfeit and Official Fees must be paid.
16. HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE:
All Girls and Boysin grades 8 to 12, except boys on High School Varsity teams, are eligible.
