igus®introduces miniature drive with optional NEMA motor
DryLin® SLN-27 is a small, lightweight and lubricant-free system for positioning small loads

East Providence, RI –September 12, 2013 – Linear drive expert introduces the DryLin SLN-27 miniature linear axis with polymer bearings and an optional NEMA 11 certified motor. Developed specifically for simple handling tasks in confined spaces, this high-performance miniature linear drive offers design flexibility for positioning small loads.

The DryLin SLN-27 miniature linear axis is based on the DryLin N27 linear guide system. The linear rail of both the N27 and SLN-27 is made of durable anodized aluminum. The plastic carriage has high wear resistance, is maintenance-free, self-lubricating and corrosion-resistant, providing a ‘fit and forget’ solution. With compact dimensions of only 0.86 inches by 1.10 inches (22mm high by 28mm) wide, the SLN-27 is ideal for low-load sensor adjustments and feed mechanisms, as well as lightweight handling tasks such as those found in laboratory equipment and camera inspection machinery.

Lightweight plastics and aluminum make the DryLin SLW-27 extremely robust. The carriage is driven by a 0.19 inch (5mm) trapezoidal or high-helix thread leadscrew and is available in a range of pitches from 0.03 inches to 0.19 inches (0.8mm to 5mm). The leadscrew nuts are made of iglide® high-performance polymers, which are optimized for lubricant-free operation over the entire stroke length, which can be a maximum of 9.84 inches (250mm).

“The SLN-27 is one of the lightest linear guidesin the industry,” says Matt Mowry, DryLin National Product Manager at igus Inc. “Even with the maximum stroke length of almost ten inches, this miniature actuator weighs just 2.5 lbs.”

The compact SLN-27 can be bought as a complete system with a NEMA 11 stepper motor, still achieving compact dimensions, and is made using stock components, individually configured to the required length. Alternatively, for customers that already have a stepper motor made by another manufacturer, igus offers a ‘quick-fit’ aluminum spacer and motor flange connection to fit the NEMA 11 motor.
