Igeho 2017 closes its doors: professional visitors highly delighted
Today, Wednesday, 22November, Igeho, the international exhibition for hotels, catering, take-away and care, came to a close at Messe Basel. 750 exhibitors from 16 countries presented their products and services at Switzerland’s most important hospitality-industry event. Around 70000 interested visitors came to find out about the latest trends. A lively atmosphere prevailed in the exhibition halls, together with a positive mood. Both the exhibition management and the exhibitors regard the result as highly gratifying.
From Saturday, 18 to Wednesday, 22 November, Igeho enticed a large number of professionals to Messe Basel. Visitors not only came to discover the latest trends in the hotel and catering trades but were also particularly delighted at the large number of highlights featured at Igeho. The Igeho Campus that was introduced two years ago to mark the 50th anniversary of the exhibition has been able to establish itself as a popular meeting point. This year too, national and international experts presented papers on a range of different topics and prompted discussions.
Familiar faces were also encountered at Igeho. Actor and hotelier Max Loong, for example, was highly impressed: “The size and quality of the exhibition are fascinating”, says Loong. And: “Alongside my function as moderator at the Igeho Campus, I have also taken the opportunity to derive inspiration for my hotel on Bali.” The “Gentleman of the cookery trade”, Anton Mosimann was also there. He not only recounted tales about his eventful life – including as a chef for the British royal family – but also wielded the cooking spoon in the Chefs’ Arena alongside young talents and star chefs. “Igeho is important for the sector as a whole – and especially for young people too, who can find information about everything here”, says Mosimann.
Host country of Peru a big attraction for visitors
The presentation of the host country of Peru is one of the personal highlights of exhibition manager Dominique Dresel: “On the occasion of Peruvian Day on Tuesday, I was able to welcome Peru’s ambassador to Geneva, Luis E. Chávez Basagoitia, at Igeho.” Head chef Heinrich Herold provided insight into the special features of Peruvian cuisine and served a delicious ceviche. The presence of a large number of Peruvian media representatives also ensured that Igeho received publicity beyond Switzerland's borders via the social web.
The new exhibition sectors of “Spa Competence” and “Pool and Garden” provided added value for the hoteliers, being staged in an appealing and expert manner. And the accompanying events at Igeho similarly proved to be highly popular. At the Swiss Hospitality Investment Forum (SHIF) in the Congress Center Basel, investors and hoteliers met up to engage in animated discussions. And Mefa, the specialist fair for the meat trade and food production, presented the “prime cuts” of the sector once again.
Igeho 2017 has made a positive impression on exhibitors and visitors alike – and will hopefully attract a large number of them to the next Igeho again. This is being staged from 16 to 20 November 2019. And we can start looking forward to it right now already.
