Marketplace Europe Ltd bring their Continental Christmas Market (housed in chalets) to Newcastle City Centre from Friday 17 November to Sunday 10 December 2017 inclusive. We will use the chalets for ourmarket from Monday 11 December to Sunday 17 December inclusive.

There will be around 50spacesavailable per day to rent to traders whosell good quality local food, drink, crafts, art and gifts.

General Information

Where the chalets are located and what we supply

  • Top of Grainger Street, Grey Street andaround Grey’s Monument.
  • We will give you a space within a chalet which measures approximately 3 metres by 2.5 metres or 4.5 metres by 2.5 metres and provide you with up to 3 tables which measure approximately 1.8 metres by 0.6 metres each.
  • General lighting will be supplied within the chalet free of charge.

Costs

  • You need a licence from us to trade at this market – Please complete the application form attached and return it to us by 26 June 2017.
  • The licence fee is as follows:

Zone 1 (Monument & Metro) - £170 per day

Zone 2 (Top of Grainger Street) - £150 per day

Zone 3 (bottom of Grainger Street) - £140 per day

Hotfood (all areas) - £180 per day

Speciality- £200 per day

Please see attached plan indicating each zone.

  • Key deposit – traders remaining in the same chalet for more than 3 days or more will be required to pay a deposit of £25 for keys.
  • Rubbish removal – a deposit of £50 will be required from the licensees. Deposits will be returned when the chalets has been cleared and inspected.
  • Traders who are licensed from 3 days to 7 days consecutively have the option of remaining in the same position each day they trade.
  • There is an extra charge (based on usage) for electricity to power chillers, grills and extra lighting etc. Please detail the equipment you wish to use on the application form and you will be notified of the additional charge.
  • If your application is successful, we will issue you with a licence and you will have to pay the licence feebefore you can trade on the market.You will be required to pay for your stall allocation no later than September 2017.
  • Once you have paid, this money cannot be refunded unless the market is cancelled by us.
  • Please do not send any money with your application form

Insurance

  • You must have a minimum of £10 million Public Liability Insurance before you can trade on any Newcastle City Council market.
  • If your application is successful, you must provide a copy of your insurance policy which details:
  1. The type of cover you have

2. The name of the company insuring you

3. The name of the policyholder

4. The policy number

5. The dates when the policy starts and ends

6. The amount you are covered for – known as the indemnity limit

Rules and Regulations to follow when trading at Newcastle Christmas Market:

  • You will be sent separate instructions on how to access and exit the market site.
  • No vehicles of any kind can be left on the market place during trading hours.
  • You are responsible for removing your own rubbishonce you finish trading. It is an offence under Sections 33(1)(a) and 33(6) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, as amended, to deposit waste, or knowingly cause or knowingly permit a deposit of waste, onto land that is not permitted for that purpose. This includes the “tipping or dumping” of any waste by traders.

The Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 contains a number of provisions relating to fly-tipping, including increasing the penalty on conviction to a maximum fine of £50,000 and/or up to five years imprisonment. Those convicted of fly-tipping offences can now be made to pay the costs of enforcement and investigation, as well as the clear-up costs. Please be in no doubt that it is the policy of this Authority to prosecute offenders.

  • You are required by Trading Standards to display your trading name and prices clearly on your chalet.
  • You must obey all relevant laws including Food Safety Regulations if these apply to your activity at the market
  • If you are selling alcohol you must have all relevant licences
  • You have to make your own arrangements for parking in the city centre. A map showing all the public car parks can be seen on Newcastle City Council website together with information or advice about parking in the city centre. Please ring Parking Control on 0191 277 2739 for further information.
