- Each year juniors are encouraged to take the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying test in October. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recognizes academically talented students of the United States.From the 1.6 million students who take the PSAT, about one-third of those students will be chosen as semi-finalists for a scholarship competition. These semi-finalists are the highest qualifiers in their state.After submitting extensive paperwork, fifteen thousand students will be chosen from the semi-finalists as National Merit Finalists, that is .9% of all those who took the test to begin with, less than 1%.Bellevue West would like to recognize one of our own TBirds who was recently named as a National Merit Finalist.Congratulations to AJ Schroeder!!
