What is Type 2 Diabetes?

Sugar gives your body energy. Sugar is in many of the foods you eat like pasta, bread, candy, cookies, soda, and fruit. If you eat or drink too many foods with sugar, you can become sick.
You may have seen the word “insulin.” Insulin helps your body to use sugar. It helps turn the sugar into energy. Insulin also helps the body save the energy for the future.
As we get older, eating too many foods with sugar can harm your body. When the body does not have enough insulin, it is called Type 2 Diabetes. This is a very serious disease. /

Checking my Blood Sugar

A person can test their blood sugar level with a device called a glucometer. People with diabetes should have their blood sugar around 110 mg/dL or less.
If your blood sugar is too low it can cause problems. Symptoms of low sugar in the blood include lots of worrying, sweating, a racing heart, and confusion. Without medicine, low sugar in your blood can lead to sleeping for a long time, brain damage, and death.
