A) LH added list of distinguished speakers is on region 2 website. Speakers are from region 2, with arrangements as for society distinguished lecturers: Region will pay travel, section provides hospitality. Approximately 8 speakers are on list. Parviz is looking for more candidates.
B) LH discussed nominating committee with BB, who will begin soliciting candidates and assistance. LH repeated we have been lucky to have good candidates show up at the end of the past two years. He offered to put request for nominations in July bulletin.
C) LH to check with Karl Mueller on status of senior member drive.
D) History dinner set for 10 May 2013, with speaker Dr. Tom Cain.
E) Discussion of 2015 (note corrected date note 2012) IEEE USA annual meeting proposal. LH gave some particulars about 2012 meeting, attendees agreed it was worth looking into. LH to circulate to excomm.
F) RS mentioned that LH had discussed associating the picnic with an astronomical session in Wheeling. LH found shelters at Oglebay and Wheeling parks were 105-205$. RS also mentioned Allegheny observatory as possibility. LH advised he has attended several public lectures there, and observatory has an outreach program, he will inquire further.
G) Discussion of possible employment, consultant, and entrepreneurs networks. JB reviewed his efforts to work with consultants’ network contacts earlier this year. One contact has moved, the other has been too busy to devote time to consultant’s network. LH to put something in bulletin on status, and to consult with PACE chair Joe Cioletti and GOLD chair Mike Hollis. Gary Blick of IEEE USA has a presentation on employment networks and consulting on the 2012 IEEE-USA annual meeting website.
b. Vice-Chair – Jim Beck
A) JB has been working with Ajay Ogirala of Communications society on a mini-symposium, moved to 2013. One aim is to have budget well before year’s end, more news next month.

· Section’s rebate deposit $12,523.00.
· Section’s 10% rebate bonus deposit $1,252.30.
Lou – There is no deposit yet of $750 IEEE-USA reimbursement.

A) TD reported in Intel Science Fair. Top pick of Pittsburgh judges was a Romanian youth who developed a tactile vision system for the blind.

A) The following is our June report for IAS PES chapters
On June 20, 2012 we held our scheduled monthly meeting. The presentation was on Smart Grid Technology Applied. We had an excellent speaker from the DOE office in Morgantown that works for NETL. In attendance were 30 guests of whom 25 were IEEE members. Chinese dinner buffet was provided to our guests.
Our next scheduled meeting is July 31. The topic is solar power.
The 2011 PES High Performing Chapter Program awards were announced this past month. A total of 45 chapters will receive award funding totaling $27,500. The Pittsburgh chapter was awarded $870 out of the maximum $1000 award. We came in eighth and ninth.
Mey - look for the $870 to appear in the checking account.

11. Society of Social Implications of Technology – Joe Kalasky
We had a tour of the Greenstar Recycling facility on Neville Island on the Wednesday June 13. The tour wasexceptionally interesting with 13 attendees.Our tour guide, Scott Dellinger was very knowledgeable ofprocess. We started with a video of the separation technique followed by a tour of the plant. We were shown the advanced technologies necessary to separate residential recyclable materials.
