Dear Parents,
MUSIC IN SCHOOL:
One of the greatest gifts a child can have is the ability to play a musical instrument. From September, we are to give as many children as possible from Years 2,3,4,5 & 6 the opportunity and encouragement to participate in instrumental music lessons in school.
WIDER OPPORTUNITIES MUSIC SCHEME: In September, Class 5 are to participate in the DCSF initiative ‘Wider Opportunities In Music’.
Two specialist instrumental teachers from the Music & Arts Service are to deliver whole class instrumental tuition as part of the national curriculum for music.
The lessons will take part each Friday afternoon in the school hall between 1.15 and 2.15 p.m. commencing Friday 12th September.
An instrument appropriate to the size and ability of each child in Class 5 will be distributed at the first lesson. Lessons and instrument hire will be funded directly by the school.
Pupils from our current Year 5 class have thoroughly appreciated and enjoyed the opportunity to play a musical instrument and to take part in their own school band.
We would like to encourage as many pupils as possible to continue learning how to play their instrument whilst in Year 6. Please see detailed below opportunities we have to offer at school.
PERIPATETIC MUSIC LESSONS:
- Education Bradford’s Music & Arts Service are to provide tuition for Woodwind and Brass instruments by specialist instrumental teachers. They will collate the timetables and direct billing for parents will be also provided by them. The Bingley company ‘Music House & House Windstruments’ offer the hire of musical instruments on varying rental schemes. Please refer to the attached letter and application form for further information.
- In a change to previous years, our Music tuition will be taught by John Pullan and Joel Harding from ‘You-Play-Music’. John & Joel currently run our after school ‘Rock Club’. Subject to demand, Joel will teach Guitar lessonsincludingAcoustic, Classical or Electric and John will teach Drum lessons. Vanessa James, an enthusiastic and extremely talented member of their staffis to teach keyboard lessons.
Unfortunately, Mr Mawson will not be re-joining us in September and the guitar lessons currently being taught by Mr Ratarhi from Education Bradford will cease.
Iam sure you will all want to join me in thanking both members of staff for the many years of service they have given to school.
Please note: It is the responsibility of the Parents who currently pay the Music and Arts Service by Direct Debit - for guitar lessons only - to contact them direct to cancel their arrangement on Bradford 385555.
Details for the new music lessons with You-Play-Music are as follows:
Keyboards:Taught in a group of three pupils for 20 minutes at £3.50 per pupil.
Drums:Taught in a group of four pupils for 20 minutes at £3.50 per pupil.
Guitars:Beginners: Taught in a group of four pupils for 20 minutes at £3.50 per pupil.
Advanced: Taught in a group of four pupils for 30 minutes at £4.50 per pupil.
It is important to note that lessons with You-Play-Music are booked on a half-termly basis and that all lessons must be paid for. To reduce administration this year, payments will be collected at the beginning of each half term.
If you think your child would be interested in the lessons we have to offer and in order for us to prepare the timetable for September, It is important that all application forms and/or the completed slip below are returned to Mrs Ayre at school – and not to the Music and Arts Service - by next Thursday 3rd Julyat the latest.
Pupils who currently enjoy Woodwind and Brass lessons in school will automatically continue unless we are otherwise notified in writing by parents. Their first lesson next term will be on Friday afternoon 12th September.
This does not apply to those pupils currently in Year 5 participating in the Band lessons. These lessons are due to end at the end of this term, however, we would like to encourage as many of those pupils as possible to continue with their tuition by completing the Music and Arts Service application form.
We hope you will join us in encouraging your children to participate in the music lessons we have to offer and look forward to enjoying many musical days ahead.
Yours sincerely,
J.T. Bowers.
Head Teacher.
