Introduction / As a class, review the student’s development of their career goals and portfolio. Discuss where they should be with both of these at this point in their school experience.
Discussion / As a class, with students’ help, list on the board school-based opportunities for career awareness/preparation that are still available to them. Question students about the content of these opportunities, when they are offered and who to contact for participating in them. Make a table of the list including all of this information.
Check with your guidance counselors and administrators and add other opportunities that did not come up in the discussion. Complete the rest of the table with information about these additions.
Activity/ Assessment / Have students write a current list of additional steps they need to take to further their career goals. Looking at the table on the board, have them identify school-based activities that they can attend to meet the requirements of these steps. Have them make a Personal Career Development Table adding the activities, when they are offered and who to contact for participation in them.
Demonstrate the process they are to follow by taking an example of a career development step and matching it to one of the activities in the table on the board.
As a class, review the rubric for the table so they know the attributes for which they will be evaluated.
