Background

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international humanitarian medical aid organization working in more than 65 countries worldwide. Médecins Sans Frontières is neutral, impartial, independent, and not linked to any political party or governmental body. It provides emergency medical assistance to people in need, irrespective of their nationality, race or religion. In 1996, MSF received the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development and in 1999 MSF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. MSF has worked in India since 1999 and provides medical treatment to hundreds of thousands of Indian patients.

MSF provides free-of-charge essential healthcare. MSF runs hospitals and clinics, perform surgery, fight epidemics, operate feeding centres for malnourished children and offer mental healthcare. MSF currently runs projects in the states of Bihar, Manipur, Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir, Chhattisgarh and Telangana. MSF India is one of 24 offices and operational centres in Europe, America, Asia and Australasia, pooling funding, expertise and staff for MSF field operations. MSF India has three key objectives in support of field operations: the recruitment of skilled medical and non-medical staff, the raising of vital funds, and public information work.

Functional and Hierarchical Lines

The ICT Assistantwill report to the ICT Specialist.

Purpose of Post

  • Under thegeneral supervision of the ICT Specialist, ensures the delivery of the services on information systems and telecommunications to all staff in MSF India Branch Office for smooth running and troubleshooting as and when required.

Main responsibilities and tasks

  1. Supports in effective functioning of the hardware and software packages:

•Performance of specific technical functions, including changing of hardware electronic components

(disks, memories, network wiring, power sources, etc.) and routine repairs;

•Assistance in the installation of commercial and in-house developed software and related upgrades.

•Assist with the troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment in house and at remote locations;

•Monitoring of file server traffic, usage and performance on a frequent and regular basis;

•Support to users in backing up and restoring their files, as well as in virus detection, removal and

prevention.

•Assistance in upgrading anti-virus programs on a timely basis;

•Ensure that software and anti-virus updates are being delivered correctly on all systems

  1. Supports networks administration:
  • Assistance in trouble-shooting and monitoring of network problems;
  • Maintain Log all trouble reports and detailed resolution in the trouble ticket system
  • Maintain and troubleshoot network systems such as file servers, network printing and connectivity;
  • Response to user needs and questions regarding network access;
  • Provide user support for all workstations and laptops;
  • Maintenance of Symantec Backup Exec logs and assistance off-site storage of backups.

  1. Provides administrative support:
  • Provide basic training to end-users on the use of standard systems
  • Maintenance of an up-to-date inventory of software and hardware;
  • Maintenance of a library of ICT related reference materials;
  • Maintenance of the inventory and stock of supplies and spare parts in cooperation with the Facilities department;
  • Maintenance of the filing system ensuring safekeeping of confidential materials;
  • Extraction of data from various sources;
  • Research and retrieval of l data from internal and external sources; preparation of statistical charts, tables and reports as required;

REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications
Minimum Graduate in IT or equivalent
Any certifications in hardware and software management and application will be a plus
Work experience
Minimum 2-3 years’work experience in below fields:
Network administration, trouble shooting, supporting management of hardware and software platforms, telecommunications facilities and knowledge of Windows-based packages/applications

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Proficiency in MS office 2010.
  • Strong knowledge of troubleshooting with Windows 7.
  • Knowledge of Cisco Technology.
  • Knowledge of Computer Hardware’s, Routers, Switches etc..
  • Good Communication Skills.
