Iceland Field Trip: 23rd – 27th October 2017
Dear Parent/Carer,
I am pleased to inform you about our planned Geography field trip to Iceland. This will be a five day residential trip that will take place during the first week of the October half-term 2017 and is open to the current KS3 students who will be Year 9, 10 and 11 respectively at the time of the trip.
The aim is provide our students with the opportunity to visit and experience first-hand some of the geographical features that we study. We hope that this will inspire them further in their appreciation and understanding of the world, and provide them with a memorable learning opportunity. As such the trip will complement the GCSE geography course that many of the students will opt to follow from Year 9. While it is not essential that students who go on the trip choose to study geography, I anticipate that this experience will be more popular, and better suited, to those who are interested in the subject.
In Iceland we will be staying in full-board accommodation at the SkalinnCenter in the village of Hvolsvollur. This gives us good access to many of the landscapes and attractions in Iceland's Golden Triangle such as: theGulfoss, Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls; the geothermalarea ofGeysir; and the Thingvellir National Park. We will walk onto the Solheimajokull glacier and look at the spectacularglacial and fluvial landforms.Of course, no visit to Iceland would be complete without a swim in the geothermally heatedBlue Lagoon which we will visit either on arrival or departure.
The total cost for the trip will be £880 per student. The reason I am contacting you so early in the build up to the trip is to allow the cost to be spread as much as possible. The trip will therefore be paid for in instalments over the next two years.
Please note that places are limited, if there is a high demand names will be selected at random to give everyone a fair chance. In order to secure a place on the trip the attached form must be completed and returned along with a chequedeposit of £150 by the 4thMarch 2016.Please place all forms and cheques in a named envelope marked Iceland 2017 and post into the red post box in school.Only when places have been confirmed will cheques be processed, and if unsuccessful your cheque will be returned. Once processed this deposit is non-refundable. In the unfortunate event that a student has to pull out of the trip the repayment of any further balance will be subject to another reserve student filling the place.
I hope that you are as excited about this opportunity as we are in the Geography department, and that your son/ daughter is able to join us in Iceland in 2017.
Yours faithfully,
Mr A Demet
