BASIC UPPER SECONDARY

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

INTERNAL APPLICANTS

1. All interested internal applicants must fill in the Pre-IB/IB Application forms before the admissions deadline.

2. All internal applicantsmust meet the following conditions for admission:

  • a minimum average exam grade of 4 must be achieved in the Year 10 or Pre-IB June examinations.
  • a minimum average Work Ethic (or its equivalent) grade of 4
  • a minimum demonstrated English language proficiency of a strong Level B1 as described in The Common European Framework for Languages (CEF)
  • a demonstrated good record of attendance and conduct

EXTERNAL APPLICANTS

1. All of the normal admissions procedures have been completed.

2. If deemed necessary, the appropriate placement exams have been taken in English and/or Maths and have been completed at a satisfactory level.

3. The students previous academic records have been provided along with letters of recommendation.

4. All external applicantsmust meet the following conditions for admission:

  • a minimum demonstrated English language proficiency of a strong Level B1 as described in The Common European Framework for Languages (CEF)
  • demonstrated academic abilities at a level appropriate to the Upper Secondary Programmes
  • demonstrated satisfactory work habits, conduct and attendance

APPLICANTS WITH SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS

Students with documented mild learning difficulties who demonstrate the ability to access and benefit from our regular curriculum and program with limited assistance and/or special assessment conditions can apply for regular admission or admission under special conditions.

Decisions about admission and the student's programme of studies will be madeafter a review of the student's previous academic records, learning needs evaluations, and current achievement levels.

SUBJECT SPECIFIC ENROLMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • English B and Norwegian B can only be chosen by students who do not have the language level required to access the respective English A or Norwegian A curriculum. (access level to be determined by a combination of the students' performance in Year 10 and the teachers' recommendations at the time of the Pre-IB admissions application review, or for new students the performance on the admissions exam)
  • Enrolment in any Language B in the Pre-IB / IB Programmes requires previous study in that language and a minimum demonstrated language proficiency of Levels B1/B2 as described in The Common European Framework for Languages (CEF)
  • Enrolment in Mathematics HL in the IB Programme requires a minimum of grade 6 (although a 7 is recommended) from the Pre-IB Mathematics A examination in June and a recommendation from the mathematics teachers.
  • Enrolment in Mathematics SL in the IB Programme requires a minimum of grade 5 from the Pre-IB Mathematics A examination in June and a recommendation from the mathematics teachers.
  • Enrolment in any Science in the IB Programmes requires previous study in that science at Pre-IB Level or its equivalent.
  • A minimum grade 5 for Mathematics in Pre-IB is a desired prerequisite for enrolling on the HL Economics course.
  • A minimum grade 5 for both Mathematics and Physics in Pre-IB is needed for enrolment in Physics HL in the IB Diploma Programme.
