Project

Two Different Projects were given and you can choose any one given below Due on

December 7, 2015

I. You need to choose at least 5 different examples

Determine the independent variable (domain) and the dependent variable (range)

Role:consumer

Situation:Lookinginsaleflyers, chooseanitemyouwanttobuy. Developatableshowing how much you would pay if you bought one to ten of that item. What is the independent variable (domain) and the dependent variable (range)? Explain how the independent and dependent variable are related.

Product/Performance:Be prepared to present to the class your findings on how much you would pay and on how your independent and dependent variables relate. Your table and explanation will be turned into the teacher.

II.Poster Project: Independent vs. Dependent Variables

At their most basic level, independent variables are thecauseand dependent variables are theeffect. You could make a lot of connections to comparisons students might find easier:

Independent / Dependent
Cause / Effect
Before / After
Input / Output
What you do / What happens

The idea of this particular project is you will use two pictures to illustrate the relationship between independent and dependent variables. The idea is to have a picture of one thing that directly affects another, label them appropriately, and write a simple statement to explain the relationship.

  • You can also use your notes to figure out independent vs. dependent variables.

WHAT:Make a poster (8.5" by 11") that uses pictures to show the difference between a dependent and independent variable.

HOW:Find or think up an example of a dependent and independent variable (use the list below as examples but do not use these in your pictures). Your posters must have: 2 pictures, one to illustrate each variable (drawn, cut out from newspaper or magazines, or printed out from the Internet), a title, labels for "dependent variable" and "independent variable", and a caption that says:

your dependent variable______depends on ______your independent variable

DEPENDENT / INDEPENDENT
Cell phone bill / Minutes used
How far you can drive / The amount of gas you have
Your Six Weeks grade / The number of assignments you turned in
How much money you earn / The hours you work
Cost of a speeding ticket / How many miles you went over the speed limit
Time it takes to drive somewhere / How fast you drive
