APES Lab Report

I.  Title Name of the experiment and/or organism on a title page.

II. Abstract 100 word MAXIMUM summary of ENTIRE report on a separate page.

III.  Introduction (at least 2 paragraph, 3 would be better)

Problem: What is the question you are trying to answer?

Background Information: What information does the reader need to understand the concepts and vocabulary used in this experiment?

Hypothesis: If______then______because______.

IV.  Experimental Procedure

Materials: List of the supplies used in paragraph form. Be specific with equipment and “brands” of test kits used.

Methods: How you did the experiment. Written in paragraph form with enough detail so that someone could repeat your experiment. Use third person impersonal.

V.  Results

Observations: 1-2 sentence of what happened (not why).

Tables: Organized information of measurements and/or observations. Must have a title and section headings.

Graphs: Diagram of organized information.

Must have:

·  Title

·  Axes labeled

·  Proper numerical scale

VI.  Conclusions (at least 3 paragraphs)

Explain your results. Now is where you give the “why”.

Restate your hypothesis. Was your hypothesis supported by your results?

Why is this experiment important? What real-world connections apply? Who would benefit form knowing this new information?

What sources of error or bias were/could have been in your experiment?

Knowing this new information, what new ideas for experiments do you have?

VII.  References

List of books, periodicals, and/or web resources you used written in proper form. (APA Format unless otherwise specified)

Use citationmachine.net or similar websites to help you.

Remember to include your lab instructions.

Other important information

1.  Put your name, date, and class on title page

2.  Put page numbers in footer (except title page) with your name

3.  Grammar and sentence structure is important

4.  Proof read—spell check—proof read

5.  Remember tables, graphs, diagrams and pictures must have titles (and if they are not original must also have references)
