I Timothy Chapter two
lesson Three
The Priority Of Prayer, Supplication, and Thanksgiving
1Ti 2:(1) I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
Notice, Paul puts prayer, supplication and thanksgiving as a matter of first importance?
1. What is the difference between supplications and prayers? See Heb. 5:7
2. Give some reasons as to why prayers and supplications should be priorities.
3. Give some reasons as to why thanksgiving should be a priority
Do you think Paul is speaking of personal prayers or congregational prayers?
Why does Paul ask that supplications, prayers, and giving of thanks are to be made "for all men"?
The Power Of Prayer

DOES THE BIBLE TEACH "UNIVERSALISM"?
1Ti 2:3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who will (θέλει/thele)have all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Some teach that this verse says that God ultimately will save all men. This is called 'Universalism'. Write down some universalist groups from the internet that exist in our day.
1. ______2.______3. ______4. ______(Other verses universalists use: Lk. 2:10; Jn. 12:32,47; Rom. 11;26; I Tim. 4:10; II Pet. 3:9 ) The key to properly understanding this is found in the Greek word for "will" = "thele". Look up the meaning and how the word is used in the following scriptures:2Ti 3:12 Php 2:13 1Ti 5:11 1Ti 2:4 Jas 4:15 1Pe 3:10 Rev 11:5 Rev 22:17 compare with thelēma from Matthew 6:10)
What do you think God means in the verse above? How would you refute Universalists? What scripture would you use?
The Reason For Prayer
1Ti 2:5 Forthere is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
The reason is founded in the fact that he is the common Father of all the race, and that he must have the same desire for the welfare of all mankind. He has made them of one blood Act_17:26, and he must have the same interest in the welfare of all ( compareEph_4:6 andRom_3:30)
What is the Greek word and definition for "mediator"? ______
Why do men need mediation?
Why did Jesus have to become a man in order to mediate? Find scripture that answers the question.
Paul says that Jesus died for all. Who is the all in this verse?(See Heb. 9:15) Did Jesus give Himself as a ransom only for all who would believe on him or for all mankind regardless if they believed on Jesus or not?
Look up the following verses: Did Jesus only die for some and not all: Is. 53:12; Jn. 10:15; John 5:21, 6:37, 44, 65, 8:42-47, 10:11, 14, 26-28, 11:49-53, 12:37-41, 13:1, 18, 15:16, 17:2, 6, 9, 18:9, 37; Acts 2:39, 13:48, 18:27, 19:9; Romans 9:10-26, 11:5-10; 1 Corinthians 1:18-31, 2:14; 2 Corinthians 2:14-16, 4:3; Galatians 1:3; Ephesians 2:1-10; Colossians 2:13; 2 Thessalonians 2:9-14; 2 Timothy 2:20, 25; Titus 2:14; Hebrews 1:3, 14, 2:9, 16 (comp. Galatians 3:29, 4:28-31), 9:28; 1 Peter 2:8; 2 Peter 2:7; 1 John 4:6; Jude 1, 14; Revelation 13:8, 17:8, 15-18, 21:27.
1Ti.7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.(8) I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
