INSTRUCTIONS AND INFORMATION
- This question paper consists of TWO sections:
SECTION A:ESSAY(50)
SECTION B:TRANSACTIONAL WRITING2 X 25 = (50)
- Answer ONE question from SECTION A and TWO questions from SECTION B.
- Start each section on a NEW page.
- You must plan (e.g. a mind map/diagram/flow chart/key words, etc.), edit and proofread your work. The plan must appear BEFORE the answer.
- All planning must be clearly indicated as such. It is advisable to draw a line across all planning.
- You are advised to spend approximately:
80 minutes on SECTION A
70 minutes on SECTION B
- Number each response correctly according to the numbering system used in this question paper.
- Give each response a suitable title/heading, as indicated by the question.
NOTE: The title/heading must NOT be considered when doing a word count.
- Write neatly and legibly.

Write an essay of 400 - 450 words (2 – 2½ pages) on ONE of the following topics.

Your older cousin used to go to your high school until he/she was expelled for having drugs at school. Everyone’s talking about it. They have started asking you questions and some people are saying you take drugs too. You desperately want to clear your name.

You run a monthly column in your school newspaper. You are inspired to write your next column based on the following letter:
‘My friend and I were gossiping about another friend on Facebook. The next day everyone was ignoring me and I had no idea why – until I found out that my “friend” had forwarded my comments with her comments deleted. It’s so unfair!’
