Course Overview
Math 7 is an on-level seventh grade course of study with a curriculum that allows students to deepen their understanding of the foundational concepts of Integer Operations, Algebra and Geometry. There is a strong emphasis on problem solving and algebraic reasoning. / Textbook:
Students will be receiving a two volume text. Students will receive online information in class.
Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE)
First Semester :
Operations with rational numbers (6 weeks)- Students will use positive and negative to represent real life situations.
Expressions and equations(6 weeks)- Students will demonstrate an understanding of linear relations and fundamental algebraic concepts (includes graphing on the coordinate plane and solving equations). / Ratios and Proportional Relationships–(6 weeks)- Students will understand the meaning of proportional relationships and use them to solve real world problems. Compute and use unit rates. Use proportional relationships to solve percent problems.
Assessments will be formal tests, performance tasks, and quizzes.
Course Expectations
All work is to be completed in pencil.
Students are expected to attend class on a daily basis, arrive on time, and come prepared with their 3-ring binder, paper, pencils, colored pencils/pens, hand-held portable sharpeners and agenda.
Students are expected to write their assignments in their agenda everyday.
Agenda will be used as a communication tool for teachers and parents.
Students are required to show all work for each problem to receive full credit. / MAKE-UP WORK POLICY: It is the students’ responsibility to pick up their missing assignments from their appropriate class folder when they are absent. Also, students must complete any make-up work within the number of school days equal to length of the absence to receive full credit. Students must arrange a time with the teacher to make up quizzes and tests.
LATE ASSIGNMENT POLICY: Late work will be accepted with the approval of the teacher.No late work will be accepted after the unit has been completed.
Behavior Expectations
Floyd Middle School uses the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (P.B.I.S) System. With this system, students are expected to be respectful, responsible and safe. They can be rewarded with Panther Paw Bucks if caught demonstrating these positive expectations. / Grading System: All Cobb County Middle Schools will be using the standards-based grading system this year for math. The following percentages will make up the students’ first quarter grades:
50% Unit one (operations with rational numbers).
40% Unit two (Expressions and Equations)
10% Computing with all rational numbers.
Grading System continued:
Second quarter grades
40% Unit two Continued (Expressions and Equations)
50% Unit three (Ratios and Proportional Relationships)
10% Computing with all rational numbers. / Each assignment will have specific set values.
Homework 10 points
Classwork 20 points
Performance Tasks 25 points
Quizzes 50 points
End of Unit Test 100 points
