I can read fluently!

Directions for this center:

*Work at this station with your shoulder partner

*If you don’t know who should do first do rock, paper, scissors.

1. Partner read. Switch off after each sentence.

2. Read alone. Your partner will listen and help if you get stuck on a word.

3. Timed read. When you are ready to begin reading your partner will start the timer. When the time is up say “please stop.”

4. Count the number of words that were read correctly and record the score.

5. Switch. The person who was the timer will now read.

6. Put your Fluency Record Worksheet in your Centers Folder.

I can listen to a story and answer questions!

Directions for this center:

*Work at this center with your team.

*The team captain is responsible for touching the materials at the listening center.

1. Bring your reading books to the floor.

2. Open your book to the story we are reading that week.

3. The team captain will put in the correct CD and press play.

4. Listen to the story.

5. Answer the questions on the listening center worksheet.

6. Put your Listening Center Worksheet in your Centers Folder.

Directions for this center:

*Work at this center independently.

1. Find a book. You may choose to read your library book from Mrs. Chavez, or you may “check out” one of Ms. O’Connor’s books from our classroom library.

2. Make sure the book you chose is a “just right” book. If you cannot read 5 words on the first page, find another book!

3. Find a comfortable spot on the carpet.

4. Read your book silently to yourself.

5. Record what you read in your reading log.

6. Put your reading log into your Center’s Folder.

Directions for this center:

1. Write the new vocabulary words in your vocabulary books.

4.  Check your writing for capitalization, punctuation, commas, spelling, and handwriting.

5.  Put your treasure chest worksheet in your Center’s Folder.

6.  Check your spelling.

7.  Put your sight words worksheet in your Center’s Folder.
