PREAMBLE:
Collingwood General and MarineHospitalis committed to ensuring a safe workplace. In order to maintain this commitment, CGMH will provide Health & Safety Orientation to all new staff, volunteers, and students prior to the commencement of their specific positions.

Health & Safety Orientation
POLICY:
1.1Every new CGMH team member, including staff, volunteers, and students, will attend Health & Safety Orientation prior to starting their new position or at the earliest time available.
1.2Any CGMH team member who has been away for nine (9) months or longer will need to attend Health & Safety Orientation within two (2) months of their return.
1.3Managers/Supervisors will provide Job-Specific Health & Safety Orientation prior to:
1.3.1A new team member starting their position
1.3.2The return of a team member after being off for nine (9) months or longer, and as required
1.4Written record of Health & Safety Orientation attendees will be kept in Human Resources.

2.1New Staff are required to complete the following:
2.1.1CGMH Health & Safety Policies/General Safety – 1 hour
2.1.2Infection Prevention & Control – 1.25 hours
2.1.3Emergency Codes – 1 hour
2.1.4JHSC/Reporting Hazards – 0.5 hours
2.1.5HealthStream Online Health & Safety – 2 hours
2.1.5.1Courses Include: Back Safety, Emergency Preparedness, Fire Safety, General Safety, Preventing Slips, Trips and Falls in the Workplace, Radiation and MRI Safety,WHMIS,Hand Hygiene,Adverse Events, Electrical Safety, & Latex Allergy
2.2Volunteers & Students are required to complete the following:
2.2.1CGMH Health & Safety Policies/General Safety – 1 hour
2.2.2Infection Prevention & Control – 1.25 hours
2.2.3Emergency Codes – 1 hour
2.3Trainer Responsibilities:
2.3.1An up-to-date schedule showing who is responsible for each training session will be posted on “The Pulse”.
2.3.2Those conducting Health & Safety Training are responsible for ensuring their session is covered if they unable to do the training themselves.
2.4Manager/Supervisor Responsibilities
2.4.1Managers/Supervisors of new staff & studentsare responsible for ensuring that their new team members have completed Health & Safety Orientation and will provide Job-Specific Health & Safety Orientation.
2.4.2Managers/Supervisors will also keep written records of those who have been provided Job-Specific Health & Safety Orientation.
2.5Volunteer Services Coordinator Responsibilities
The person responsible for the coordination of volunteers will ensure all volunteers have attended Health & Safety Orientation and will ensure further health & safety training is provided as required.

Health & Safety Orientation
2.6Evaluation
2.6.1Health & Safety Orientation will be evaluated using a pre & post test. At the start of each session, all attendees will be given a pre-test to complete. The same test will be given to the attendees at the end of the session. Changes to Health & Safety Orientation will be made as necessary to improve the effectiveness of the training.
2.6.2In order to evaluate the learning from Health & Safety Orientation, a test will be sent to the attendees approximately two (2) months after Health & Safety Orientation.Further training and/or improvements will be put in place as necessary.
