a.Proposing that the university fund printers in the SUB since it is the only 24 hour location on campus

b.Beneficial because for commuters who cannot go into the residence halls after 1AM

c.Rylee H.-I think this is a great idea because the SUB is convenient.

d.Ben T.-What do you anticipate would happen to the printers after the SUB is moved to new building/

  1. P2 question

e.JD-Look into getting printers that have USB outlets so you don’t have to long in

f.Mary-Would these be printers that you bring your own paper or the library situation?

  1. P2 question
  2. Eddie-Must go through GoPrint

g.Ryan –I move to close discussion; seconded; discussion closed

h.In favor: 32 Against: 0

i.Bill is moved to P2 phase

D.Discussion on Smoking Policy-Kassidy H.

a.Faculty Board and Staff Council have proposed a policy to change the campus smoking policy to be a smoke-free campus

b.Want to know SGA’s input; if campus should be smoke-free or have a singular designated outdoor areafor the campus

c.Current policy states that smoking is allowed as long as it 50 feet from a university building

d.Mary-I like the new policy but I agree with the alternative because I do not want students to feel restricted for a complete smoke free campus.

e.Brandon E.-I am in the middle. I do not necessarily think we need a new policy, just better policing of keeping the smokers 50 feet away from buildings. Enforce the current policy.

f.Ryan M.-I personally do not ever have an issue with the smoking policy. I do not think that a designated smoking section would not be used. I have an issues with policy #7 because I believe the punishment is too harsh for visitors.

g.Ben T.-I disagree with this policy because of non-traditional students who have lives outside of the campus. This would isolate them.

h.Alyssa S.-I think it would be worse for students to smoke on campus. If there were no areas, you can’t make person quit an addiction.

i.Spencer T.-Our campus is growing in diverse ways. Different cultures view smoking in different ways which needs to be considered.

j.JD-I move to extend discussion’

k.Bennett-International students would have to quit if we are a non-smoking campus

l.Spencer S.-I feel smokers need to smoke due to their addiction. A designated area would not be fair to them; steps on their rights.

m.JD-I am in opposition for this change for the reason for international students. Some cultures still have many people who did smoke. I could see how the policy would help UMHB’s image, but the current one doesn’t hurt the image.

n.Eliza W.-Many international students do smoke. I do believe this is good because it would give me a way to talk to them about not smoking

o.Alex A.-Faculty/Staff do smoke between classes and I do not think they would run to a designated smoking spot. I like the policy but I do not think it would work well.

p.Christian-I move to extend discussion; seconded;

  1. Discussion not extended

q.In favor of policy: 3 Against:29

VI.Open Floor

A.Ryan-I want to apologize to you guys for my actions last week. I abused Open Floor and talked down to y’all. This is meant to discuss ideas, and I took advantage of that. I spoke out of anger and frustration. I am support of every one of you. I am sorry if I lost your respect for me.

B.Brandon E.-I would like to introduce Tyler Pate as Athletic Representative

C.Haley H.-Mary mentioned baking cookies for RDs. Sophomore class is working on that and if you’d like to help, let us know.

D.Christian H.-Would the worship night be open to students?

  1. Ryan-I would like to invite other organizations to gain a faith-informed discernment point

E.Naomi-I have heard about an issue pertaining to guy dress code. They do not like that guys are allowed to be shirtless or odd cut offs and the shortness of the shorts some guys are wearing. Girls have a problem with this.

F.Alex A.-I wanted bike lanes by the rec fields, but those roads are owned by City of Belton. I do not know if we could control that. I have been asked about Cru Cups and parents want them. Maybe with the football stadium coming, we could promote a new cup with the new stadium.

G.JD-Dr. O’Rear said the city will not put lights on the dark roads because there isn’t much money there.
