Dear Parents:

I would like to welcome you and your child to Kindergarten. I would like to introduce myself, I am Julie Headley. After graduating from University of Texas at El Paso, I began teaching for the Socorro districtand have been here for20 years. I have been a Kindergarten Teacher,an Instructional Technologist, a Prekindergarten Teacher, and now I am teaching Kindergarten again.

I Believe...
All children have the ability to grow and learn. Remembering that children develop at different levels and pacing, it is our responsibility to provide as many opportunities as possible for our children to express themselves, take chances and try new things.

I also believe…

In Great Parent Communication.

I offer you my cell phone number so if you need to text me with anything, please do so. It is 915-526-8545. I send home an agenda every day. Please look at it, sign it, and send it back every day. If there is something important that I need to know, please text me because there are times I may not see the agenda till after lunch or even until the end of the day when it is time to go home.

Also… In the Agenda you will see how their day went. If they had a great day, they will either have a happy face or a sticker. If there day was not so good, I will post a face with swiggly lines for being disciplined with a warning that they did not follow directions or a sad face for not following directions several times. In both cases, there will be a small explanation of what happened. If you have questions, please let me know. I may want to talk to you briefly right after class.

I love to take pictures of the kids during the school day of different activities they are doing, please be sure to provide me with your cell/smart phone so I can share those pictures with you. I twitter the pictures as well. Please be sure to look me up so you can begin following me and seeing all the pictures.

YOUR HOMEWORK (YES PARENTS YOU…)

SEND ME A TEXT SO I CAN STORE YOUR # in my phone because…

There are times I find out info I think you need to know after the kids have left for the day. If you do not want me to send you any pictures on your phone, let me know. If you do not want me to text you for any reason, please share your email or allow me know to call you.

If you ever need to meet with me, my conference time will be from 2:45-3:30 pm. You may also call me to arrange other times. I look forward to meeting you! This will be a great year full of learning experiences!! If you ever need to contact me please call me at 937-8162 or e-mail me at .

School Supplies

School supplies- Attached you will find a supply list. PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE ARE ITEM IN WHICH WE WILL NEED TO REPLENISH DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR. The items we used are shared at each table, you do not need to put their names on them- the reason we put them together is to teach the kids the art of sharing. They have been home with you for the last 4/5 years and unless they have siblings, they do not quite know how to share yet

Uniforms

It is required for your child to use a uniform. Shirts should be white, maroon, or teal and MUST have the school logo (THEY MUST HAVE SHIRTS TUCKED IN AT ALL TIMES)

Pants, shorts, and jumpers/skirts (for girls) need to be black or khaki. Girls may also wear a plaid jumper or skirt/skort (maroon/white colored plaid only) There is a complete list of on the front page of our SVE website.

Please buy your child shoes with Velcro. It is easier and more sanitary because they won’t be playing with them like they would shoelaces as they untie and get dragged through dirty floors, bathroom floors and the dirt outside.

Homework

I WILL SEND A MONTHLY HOMEWORK LETTER FOR YOUR CHILD TO WORK ON DURING THE WEEK.

All homework will be brought back in on Friday.

Attendance & Tardies

It is very important for your child’s education that he/she attends class everyday on time. Your kids are only at school for three hours each day, so please make dentist appointments, etc. in the afternoon. Of course if your child needs to be absent, please send a note to me, an email or a doctor’s note explaining the reason for the absence. Please be aware that if your child is absent more than 3 consecutive days, they need a doctor’s note for the absence to be excused. AND… if your child is absent more than 10 total days, every time they are absent after that, they will need a doctor’s note for the absence to be excused.

It is very important that your child be on time. School begins promptly at 7:30am . The tardy bell will ring at 7:35am.

Any student entering the building after that will need to stop to pick up a tardy slip from the office.

“Dismissal” Procedures

School is dismissed at 2:30 pm. We will exit through the doors on the side next to the canopy by the Basketball courts. You will need to park in the parking lot on the Southeast side of the school.

Please be on time, the students still do not understand the concept of time and even if you are a couple of minutes late, to them it is an eternity and they become sad and scared. Also… a Sign-out sheet/parent info sheet will be going home. Be sure to put down all the names of adults who will have permission to pick up. Please add the same names to my parent info as well.

I know emergencies do arise, please let the office know if you will be more than 5 minutes late. The school phone number is 937-8100. They will let me know as soon as we dismiss the students. You may also send me a text, so I know too!

Should you need to pick up your child early from school, please sign them out in the office. If a child is picked up before 10:00 am they will be considered absent for that day.

If your child will be celebrating a birthday here at school and you want to send in a treat to share with the kids,

Please send in only cookies or doughnuts. Cupcakes are too messy!

Thank you,

Mrs. Headley
