Audio-Technica Sponsors Successful Audio Retreat Weekend, Featuring Frank Filipetti and Hosted by Hearstudios in Camden, Maine

— Filipetti, a six-time GRAMMY®-winning producer, engineer and mixer, held this incredible, educational three-day audio learning experience at Hearstudios in picturesque Camden —

STOW, OH, September 16, 2016 — Audio-Technica, a leading innovator in transducer technology for over 50 years, served as a key sponsor for the recent event dubbed “Frank Filipetti’s Audio Retreat Weekend,” a three-day audio learning experience at Hearstudios in Camden, Maine, September 9 through 11, 2016. Six-time GRAMMY®-winner Filipetti has been one of the industry’s most lauded recording, mixing and production icons for almost four decades. Around 20 participants took part in the retreat.

Over the weekend, Frank Filipetti shared his formidable creative, technical and business insights, including miking techniques for instruments and room capture, workflow concepts, critical listening, problem-solving, production strategies, signal processing, mix tricks, managing different-sized projects, technology evolution and application, and other essential aspects of the audio recording arts. Additional subjects included client relationships, balancing work and personal life, expanding career and business platforms, etc.

The Audio-Technica miking clinic that was held on Sunday featured Frank and a select group of Audio-Technica personnel working with songwriter Ellen Tipper, a Maine-based folk singer/songwriter/pianist, and a live band, exploring setup, recording, production and mixing. Essential aspects of mic selection and placement, room acoustics, isolation ideas, unique instrument miking techniques, tricks of the trade, problem solving, and other related topics were explored. Audio-Technica representatives were on hand to take part in the event and answer questions on A-T’s extensive product line.

Audio-Technica supplied the following microphones for the event: two models each from their flagship 50 series, including AT5040 Studio Vocal Microphones and a stereo pair of AT5045 (AT5045P) Cardioid Condenser Instrument Microphones; plus two AT4081 Phantom-powered Bidirectional Ribbon Microphones and other products, including shock mounts, headphones and additional microphones.

Michael Edwards, Audio-Technica Vice President, Product and Market Development, was in attendance and remarked, “This was a stellar weekend for all involved, and A-T is proud to have been a key part of the program. The Sunday miking seminar was particularly successful, with Ellen Tipper and a live band providing a dynamic performance as a real-world backdrop for an in-depth look at how microphone technique factors in to all aspects of a production. The attendees were engaged and curious throughout, and from what I saw, everybody left the weekend inspired and invigorated.”

Filipetti noted, “For over a decade, Audio-Technica microphones have been at the top of my list for nearly any gig, and I’m so glad they got to take an active role in this three-day retreat. I love sharing my knowledge and experience with those who are receptive to it, and having Audio-Technica as a partner in making this event happen made it even better. Once again, A-T was my ace in the hole.”
