Welcome back to school.

Amy (Colson) Thierry

I am looking forward to a fun-filled year

packed full of reading and writing activities and projects.

Go to my staff webpage for classroom assignments and additional website links for learning 

Class work/Homework Policy:

I do not accept incomplete work.

Unfinished class work becomes homework.

Students who do not come to class prepared with supplies or finished work will call

home to communicate his/her choices to come to class unprepared.

Students not meeting standard on assessments will need to come in before or after school

for additional tutoring so he or she can retest and meet standard.

All final-draft writing assignments will be word-processed: we have a great computer lab,

computers in the classroom and a library that is open before school, at lunch and during the

after-school program with computers. No printer at home, no problem,

just e-mail me the draft and I will print it here.

Room 210:

This class is a positive environment. Once students cross the threshold, all negative words and gestures

are prohibited. Negativity will immediately be taken out and replaced with positivity. That means, if someone

says, “I hate reading,” that student will leave the room, purge their negativity in the hall, put on a smile, and return

to class with something like, “I love reading, especially in Mrs. Thierry’s room.” 

If it is not how the student genuinely feels, my philosophy is “Fake it to make it.”

This is a reading class; therefore, we read. This is a writing class, and we write.

And sometimes, we get to do both on the same day. YAAAAAAAAY! 

Reading Policy:

Students will create individual reading goals throughout the year and take action to meet them.

Thus, your student will need to read 30 minutes a day, every day. If they read one hour one day,

skip a day, ok, but try not to do that all of the time. We want to make sure that we are regularly exercising

the brain working on vocabulary acquisition skills, comprehension, fluency, etc. through daily reading.

If your student says they are done with their goal so they do not have to read, that is a lie.

If they have met their goal, AWESOME! Now raise it and move on. Read, read, read, read!!!

We will celebrate each goal period with a party!

Classroom Supplies:

Please designate one of your binders, set of five dividers and a spiral/composition notebook to Language Arts.

You will need LOTS of notebook paper and enough pens/pencils to be prepared for class daily.

Colored pencils and highlighters are a plus. Do not bring markers to school.

Supply donations are always accepted and appreciated.

If you can, please bring in a box of tissue, 12-24 pack of pencils,

baby wipes/disinfectant wipes, or notebook paper to donate to the classroom supplies.
