How to apply

There are two ways to enter:

In advance

Fill out the form and send it, together with a reference picture, to between 20th Septemberand9th November 2014.

On the day

Bring your completed form and reference picture to the cosplay desk on the day of the contest. There will be a very limited number of places – arrive early to avoid disappointment!

You must provide a reference picture of your character (either emailed with your form or handed in on the day).

Important! Notes on Application

1.Participants agree to take part and be featured in marketing and publicity material for Cross Media, Hyper Japan and Eat Japan as required, as well as external media viewable by the general public, including but not limited to newspapers, magazines and websites.

2.Application forms and/or reference pictures cannot be returned under any circumstances.

3.Personal information collected via the application form will be used for no purpose other than the selection of cosplayers.

4.All personal information collected via the application form will be protected by Cross Media and will not be provided to any third party. Application forms will be destroyed once selection has been made and forms are no longer required.

5.Cross Media accepts no liability for any loss, damage, costs, expenses or claims suffered or incurred by any person as a consequence of any use of or inability to use this application process, the Hyper Japan website, or any related media content. It is the sole responsibility of the applicant and/or parents/guardian to confirm with Cross Media regarding any queries or questions they may have about application, selection and/or participation.

*SHOJO VS SHONEN COSPLAY BATTLE - RULES*

1. OVERVIEW

A costume contest where prizes are awarded for the best costumes as judged by a panel of experienced cosplayers.

2. THEMES – SHONEN AND SHOJO

Costumes must be from Shōnen or Shōjo anime or manga series.

Shōnen series

Shōnen means an anime or manga typically aimed at boys. Themes usually include action, fighting and sports.

Examples of Shōnen anime include: Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, Naruto, Bleach,Kuroko’s Basket, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Death Note,Fairy Tail, Full Metal Alchemist,Attack on Titanand Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic.

Shōjo series

Shōjo means an anime or manga typically aimed at girls. Themes usually includemusic, romance and magical abilities.

Examples of Shōjo anime include:

Sailor Moon, Madoka Magica, Pretty Cure, Fruits Basket, Cardcaptor Sakura, Vampire Knight, Paradise Kiss, Uta no Prince Sama, and Kiki’s Delivery Service.

The series listed are just examples – you may enter characters from any shonen or shojo series.

You can enter both male and female characters from either genre.

3. PRIZES

Prizes are awarded for the best shōnen and shōjo costume. The best costume out of the two winners will also receive a trophy and the title ‘Shōnen vs Shōujo Cosplay Battle Champion’.

There will also be a special prize for juniors.

4. ELIGIBILITY

a)The competition is open to all ages, but entrants aged under 18 must have their entry form signed by a parent or guardian. If you look young for your age, please bring proof of age.

b)You can enter alone or in a group, but separate prizes may not be provided for each group member.

c)Bought costumes are not allowed. Most of your costume should have been made by you, or your friends and family.

5. STAGE AND AUDIO

a)Each entry will have up to 1 minute to pose on stage. You may do a short performance if you wish.

b)Contestants who enter in advance can choose their own audio track (MP3) emailed together with their entry form.

c)Contestants who enter on the day or who do not provide an audio track will have music provided for them by the cosplay team.

6. JUDGING

Each judge can award up to 10 points:

a)Accuracy – 3 points

How well the cosplay resembles the character. High score will be given for accurate colours, costume and make-up details and use of props.

b)Craftsmanship – 3 points

Overall quality and neatness of the costume.

c)Stage Presence – 3 points

How the cosplayer acts and moves on stage.

d)Judge’s Bonus – 1 point
