PS Jones Middle School Physical Education Information

I. / Mission:
Physical Education will provide an individualized, developmentally appropriate, and personally challenging instructional program that advances the student's knowledge, confidence, skills and motivation to engage in a lifelong, healthy, active lifestyle. The benefits derived from the physical education program depend upon the amount of effort and positive attitude that your child displays. In order to provide for a variety of student needs and interests, the program is divided into two main components: Physical Education AND Health Education.
II. / Expectations for All Students:
In Physical Education all students will participate in a regular program of vigorous exercise and activities, which require consideration to attire, personal hygiene, and locker room procedures. The following expectations are developed to protect and enable each student to obtain the maximum benefit from the program.
1. / NO FOOD, CANDY, GUM, or BEVERAGES allowed in the gym or the health room.
2. / NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES of any kind. If seen using them they will be taken to the office for parent pick up.
3. / All personal items must be put in book bags and placed in your assigned class/teacher’s area.
4. / Students are allowed to dress out for P.E. in shorts and tee-shirts with sleeves and appropriate graphics.
5. / Wear appropriate shoes at ALL times. High-heeled shoes, flip flops and backless shoes (slide on shoes) are not acceptable.
6. / Lobby, bathrooms, locker rooms and teacher offices’ are OFF LIMITS WITHOUT TEACHER PERMISSION.
7. / Students are NOT permitted to leave the gym or the Health room at anytime without a pass from a teacher.
8. / Immediately report all injuries to the teacher. A student that sustains an injury during a P.E. activity should report that injury to his/her teacher as soon as the injury occurs.
9. / STOP ALL ACTIVITIES and REPORT DIRECTLY TO YOUR TEACHER IF THERE ARE
FIRE / TORNADO / EMERGENCY ALARMS! STAY CALM AND LISTEN FOR DIRECTIONS.
Students will also:
1. / Show proper respect for teachers and classmates in a safe and respectful manner at all times.
2. / Listen and follow directions during class instruction.
3. / Refrain from inappropriate behavior – Refer to P.R.O.P.S.
4. / Aid in the prevention of escalated disagreements.
5. / Use equipment properly and as directed by the teacher.
III. / Student Participation:
1. / Students are expected to fully participate in all activities each class period.
2. / Students are required to bring a note, signed by a parent, guardian or doctor explaining the reason for non-participation and absences in order to be excused from class activities.
3. / A doctor’s note is required after THREE consecutive days (NOT classes) of non-participation.
4. / Students are accountable for ALL class absence(s), or tardies from class. This includes making up work.
5. / Students arriving late to class must have an excuse note.

STUDENTS WILL EXERCISE GOOD CHARACTER AND SPORTSMANSHIP AT ALL TIMES!

50% - Participation in PE
20% - Exercise/Jog
15% - Test/Projects
15% - Class Work
