PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.

1. If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

3.2 SURFACE PREPARATION

A. Prepare surfaces for cement patching and accessory products to manufacturer's requirements.

B. Confirm compatibility of surface preparation cleaning agents with cement patching and crack filling products.

3.3 CRACK FILLING AND SEALING

A. Surface Preparation:

1. Opening to be sealed shall be free from frost, dust, dirt, oil and loose particles. Hosing and wire brushing facilitate cleaning.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** DRYLOK Masonry Crack Filler. Delete if not required.

B. Installation:

1. Place cartridge in any standard style caulk gun. Select the size of the bead by cutting the plastic spout at the number indicated (5/16,1/4) on the cartridge tip.

2. Cut spout at a 45-degree angle. Puncture inner seal in spout with screwdriver.

3. Force compound tightly into the crack. Smooth down patch with a wet putty knife or trowel.

4. Deep cracks (over 1/4 inch (6 mm)) shall be filled to within 1/4 inch (6 mm) of top with Oakum before filling with crack filler.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** DRYLOK Pourable Masonry. Use only when cracks are 1/2 inch (13 mm) wide or less.

C. Installation:

1. Remove the red cap. Cut the tip of the spout to a size slightly smaller than the width of the crack.

2. Squeeze pourable masonry crack filler tightly into the crack, over-filling slightly to allow for shrinkage.

3. Smooth patched area with a putty knife.

4. Replace the cap after use.

3.4 HYDRAULIC CEMENT APPLICATION

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete if not required.

A. Hydraulic Cement: Back chisel out the area to be patched to the shape of an inverted "V" (the point at the surface). This allows the patch to expand and lock into the surface. Wet down the area prior to patching to help cement cure properly.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete if not required.

B. For Active Leaks (the presence of flowing water through a break in the surface):

1. Mix appropriate amount of cement. In approximately 21/2 - 3 minutes, the mixture will become warm to the touch which indicates it is commencing to set. At this time force the Fast Plug into the opening with the palm of the hand. Hold in place for 3-5 minutes, assuring a complete set and sufficient bond to stop the flow of water. The patched area may be smoothed and trimmed to the surrounding area in approximately 5 minutes.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete if not required.

C. For Inactive Leaks, Patching, Anchoring:

1. Thoroughly soak the area to be patched. This will prevent the surface from sucking the water out of the patching material. Apply with knife or trowel. Use the surface to smooth the patch evenly.

2. When anchoring, chisel or drill hole in the masonry surface slightly larger than item to be anchored. Make certain mix is tamped firmly into hole and around metal part.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Fast Plug may be painted when set with DRYLOK Masonry Waterproofer, Latex Base DRYLOK Masonry Waterproofer, DRYLOK Powdered Masonry Waterproofer or DRYLOK Concrete Floor Paint. Delete if finishing not required.

D. Finishing: Cement shall be painted when cured. Refer to Section 09980 - Masonry and Concrete Sealers and Coatings.
