QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’ degree with a Human Resources emphasis. Master’s Degree Preferred. Three to five years of experience in Human Resources required;
  • Expertise in FMLA, Title IX, ADA, FLSA, ACA, etc;
  • Excellent written and oral skills;
  • Strong computer skills such as proficiency with MS Office/Excel and Google Drive;
  • Must be able to maintain high level of confidentiality and discretion;
  • The ability to work and communicate effectively (oral and written) with staff, local agency representatives, administrators, and community members. Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Experience with applicant tracking and recruiting experience with time and attendance systems;
  • Experience with the Michigan Public Schools fingerprint process and school safety legislation;
  • No physical or mental restrictions that would, with reasonable accommodation, prevent performance of the essential job functions and responsibilities;
  • Michigan School Business Officials (MSBO) Human Resources Specialist preferred.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administer new hire procedures, including checking references, developing compensation package, and extending offers to select candidates;
  • Calculates salary spreads for new employees for new employees based on date of hire;
  • Calculates annual salaries and salary spreads, wage increases and contractual payouts for employees;
  • Special projects that may include: developing training programs, safety program administration, wellness programs, and assists department with workforce compliance needs;
  • Acquires and maintains a thorough knowledge of all laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures pertinent to employment law, and have the ability to interpret such information, as required;
  • Assists Ionia ISD with collective bargaining, employee dispute resolution, employee and disciplinary situations;
  • Helps develop and implement best practices regarding Human Resource functions, including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, TitleIX procedures;
  • Maintains credibility and knowledge of, networks of local, state and national groups and organizations;
  • Interprets existing personnel bylaws, policies and administrative guidelines to staff and makes recommendations for changes in administrative procedures;
  • Supports and promotes staff growth and performance through education and training opportunities across the organization
  • Surveys staff for basic success skills and staff satisfaction/engagement;
  • Acts as liaison between Ionia ISD and Substitute Management System vendor;
  • Evaluates Board Policies for Superintendent in the light of current operations;
  • Maintains and monitors staffing lists for accuracy.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Twelve-month employment;
  • Exempt from union membership as confidential employee;
  • District-provided medical, hospitalization, vision, and dental insurance as provided administration;
  • Sick, necessary, and vacation leave;
  • Salaried position.

EVALUATION:

Performance rated annually by the Superintendent and Director of Fiscal Services.
