The Arts Alliance Center at Clear Lake

Bay Area Houston – Cool Jazz rings in the Autumn with this year’s most sensational affair: The Arts Alliance Center at Clear Lake (TAACCL) in conjunction with SNC Productions present the 6th annual “Legends of Jazz” Concert performance. This musical event will debut at The Arts Alliance Center at Clear Lake on Sunday, October 15, 2006 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.

The exciting, all-star line-up features a look at some of America’s best Jazz and Blues Legends. Huey Long (guitar), the elder statesman of this year’s show, just recently celebrated his 102nd birthday, and is noted as one of the Original Ink Spots who started his musical career in the early 1920’s. Joining him will be fellow Legend Jay Berg (trumpet), formerly of The Charlie Parker Band, “Big” Joe Nettles (Blues piano and vocals), Harry Sheppard (vibraphone), and “Professor” Conrad Johnson (alto saxophone). Rounding out the Legends Showcase is one of the most exciting drummers in this country, the legendary Marion Booker.

The show is hosted by vocalist Carol Sanders and her Straight No Chaser Jazz Ensemble, featuring the talents of Leo “The Voice” Polk (Music Director/trumpet/cornet/vocals), Robert Sanders (grand piano, bloch flute), David Craig (upright string bass), and featuring jazz tap dancers Casey Boyle and guest. Special guest drummer Ed Garfinkle will performs with “Prof” Conrad Johnson.

In 1988, Congress recognized Jazz as America’s indigenous art form and formally voted to declare Jazz a “National Treasure”. Collectively, The Legends of Jazz represents that national treasure well, covering several lifetimes of music, with careers that have spanned most of the 20th and all of the 21st Century. Individually, these Legends have worked with such notables as Charlie Parker, Sonny Stitt, Billie Holliday, Dinah Washington and other American Jazz Music Legends. The Arts Alliance Center at Clear Lake has recognized the significance of this opportunity to present these fabulous performing musicians, and has provided a great atmosphere for this annual fundraiser since its inception.

The Legends of Jazz is a concert that features some of the elder statesmen of the music industry presently still performing their craft at its finest. Many represent America’s Musicians of the Year, Legendary drummers, Blues Legends and Broadway Film Stars. This musical performance offers an outstanding opportunity to see, hear and enjoy a piece of American Music History……As It Happens!

The Arts Alliance Center at Clear Lake, a non-profit 501(c)3 Arts and Education Organization, located 2000 NASA Parkway (across the street from NASA’s Johnson Space Center), has made a grand commitment to this Fall Festival. As one of the most appropriate venues in the city, The Arts Alliance Center at Clear Lake is an active Museum that provides the perfect showcase for this historical affair.

Join us as we bring you the best live Jazz Performance of the Autumn Season!!!
