Elected Committee

As a constitutional requirement, the HSP Research Foundation Inc. holds elections for all committee positions at every Annual General Meeting. Organisations such as ours are only as good and as strong as the collective talent, energy and application of volunteer committee members allow. The Committee meets 4-6 times a year using email and/or conference calling as members live in different States, with our main communication method being via e-mail. Committee members shoulder a significant, ongoing workload in their role.

The Work of the HSPRF

The work done and outcomes achieved are described in the Annual Report. To be effective, we need outcomes in the following areas:

managing the research and funding process; collaboration with research providers
planning for future drug discovery and development.
grant applications to philanthropic institutions for funding of research.
fundraising — both within the HSP community, and especially opportunities with the community at large via event fundraising or sponsorship; managing the relationships with organisations who collect money on our behalf; managing relationships with people who raise funds on our behalf.
community development:
fulfilling the Foundation’s commitment to information and education.
connecting with the community, handling enquiries, secretarial and administrative functions.
encouraging and fostering increasing numbers as members of the HSP community and the Foundation.
facilitating the community connecting with each other.
website as the community hub — contributions of news, articles, stories, profiles, latest research and other relevant information.
annual communications initiative with the HSP community.
publicity and communications — raising awareness and the profile of HSP, HSPers, HSP research/researchers, the Foundation and funding within the community, within the relevant medical and paramedical communities, within the global HSP community and with society at large.
legal/constitutional oversight and governance, dealing with Government and other authorities/bodies to ensure our standing and reputation as a charity.
global collaboration with HSP support groups and with key researchers on HSP worldwide.
effective organisation — developing and implementing systems and processes for the smooth and effective running of the Foundation’s business. This includes systems and process development and implementation for membership, handling enquiries, fund-raising and donation tracking, correspondence and communication with community members — Welcomes and Thank You’s etc, accounting and financial management, database development and management, website development and management, website updating.

Committee positions are 4 office bearers - President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurerand up to 3 other Committee members.
