Department overview

The office of the Deputy CEO is responsible for the implementation of an exciting innovation and collaboration project which creates opportunities for the joint exploration of new ideas and solutions to enhance workplace productivity, recognising the need for industry and training providers to work together. This project has been designed to address the following objectives:

  • the training and TAFE system delivers high-quality skills training that is relevant and responsive to evolving industry needs and business training requirements
  • partnerships between training providers and industry or employers are strengthened
  • workforces are equipped with the skills needed for identified future growth sectors and new and emerging industries
  • industry and/or business productivity is improved through training and TAFE system involvement in industry-based applied research

The collaborative project overseen by South West Institute of TAFE (SW TAFE) and will focus on three components.

  1. Building localised, future focussed evidence of skills needs
  2. A new approach to career development and management for current and future workers
  3. Design and delivery of high-quality skills training that responds to industry needs and latest research on the future of work.

Position overview/your opportunity

The Research Assistant provides research and administrative assistance to the Deputy CEO and theSenior Project Managerand works collaboratively with all stakeholders across a range of project elements

Key Responsibilities

  • Support​ ​and​ ​assist​ ​the​ ​Senior Project Manager,​ ​Research​ ​Manager​ ​and​ ​Evaluation Coordinator​ ​with​ ​the​ ​collection​ ​and​ ​analysis​ ​of​ ​data
  • Support​ ​the​ ​distribution​ ​and​ ​use​ ​of​ ​evaluation​ ​tools
  • Assist​ ​with​ ​communication​​ ​and​ ​support​ ​to​ ​the​ ​community​ ​of​ ​practice
  • Provide research documentation and administrative support for various projects
  • Propose/initiate procedures and evaluate existing procedures to effect improved or additional methods for handling or reporting information
  • Perform a range of administrative duties, contacting internal and external stakeholders, and other administrative duties as directed by the Senior Project Manager
  • Participate in, and/ or lead, organisational wide working groups directed toward the achievement of the institutes operational and strategic goals
  • Contribute to organisation – wide compliance, planning and policy development, preparing reports, statistics and other relevant information as required
  • Responsible and accountable for meeting agreed priorities, project objectives and performance standards and adhering to schedules and deadlines
  • Constantly looks for continuous improvement opportunities and ways to innovate, and encourages others to do the same
  • Is able to analyse data, ensuring that it is an accurate portrayal of the current state of work unit
  • Keep up to date with relevant information and industry best practice
  • Comply with internal policies and procedures including the Code of Conduct
  • Demonstrate the organisational values on a daily basis and proactively seeks to maintain a healthy and safe work environment

  • Experience​ ​in​ ​research​ ​projectsand demonstrated​ ​understanding​ ​of​ ​research​ ​practice,​ ​approaches​ ​and​ ​protocols
  • Experience in analysing,​ ​interpreting,​ ​synthesising​ ​and​ ​communicating​ ​data​ ​and​ ​reports with a knowledge​ ​of​ ​big​ ​data​ ​projects
  • Project​ ​Management​ ​skills, including stakeholder​ ​management and staff​ ​and​ ​contract​ ​management
  • Function effectively with a commitment to quality customer service and proven ability to build and develop positive client stakeholder relationships
  • Is able to identify how they have maintained contemporary knowledge in your specific area
  • Understand the immediate goals of the institute and the governance context in which the Institute operates and ensures compliance within these
  • Ability to relate professionally to both internal and external clients and demonstrated initiative, problem solving skills
  • Flexibility with working arrangements is essential

Qualification/Requirements

Mandatory requirements

  • Bachelor Degree and relevant experience in Research or Psychologyor a suitable combination of relevant qualifications and experience
  • Sound administration skills
  • Employee Victorian Working with Children and satisfactory Police Check

Highly desirable requirements

  • Experience in Vocational Education & Training (VET) Industry
