Q: Is there a specific format for the logs?

A: PAL uses production logs with cookies and user details.

Q: What’s the size of the logs?

A: The log size is unlimited, but it is recommend to take up to 1 peak hour to reduce the processing time.

Q: Is the test scenario created automatically? Can it be customized?

A: Yes , in the Scenario tab click “Create Test”. PAL creates a test which can be customized.

Q: How can we be sure that the load test represent the real load and to compare its results to production data?

A: After you run the test, you can create a PAL report that compares between the production log and the results. The comparison report can be displayed as a grid or as a chart.

Q: Do I need an extra license to use PAL + NV?

A: PAL – no additional license is required, NV - you get license for 2 free Vusers.

Q: Can we generate the NV analytics report during the load test?

A: We have heard that feedback from the field and intend to add this capability in a future release.

Q: Is there a particular license proposed for noise generator? I assume this capability is limited to Web apps, right?

A: No need for a specific license to use noise generator scripts.

When working with noise generator scripts, the total number of charged Vusers is as follows:

10 noise Vusers are charged as a single Vuser.

100 noise Vusers are charged as 10 Vusers.

It is relevant for Web apps. The purpose is to create a load on the server by having a large number of users accessing the same URL simultaneously.

Q: Google Analytics and Web trends data are no more supported by PAL for now, right?

A: In PC 12.50, PAL supports logs that include user cookies/sessions (such as IIS, Apache and HP RUM). PAL analyzes the logs and automatically creates business flows and performance scenarios.

You can also use Google Analytics and Webtrends logs to create PAL compression reports.

Q; what stands PAL for?

A: Performance Application Lifecycle. The improved PAL feature allows for complete end-to-end testing and DevOps feedback. Users can accurately compare performance test results with real production data benchmarks. Analysis of these results provides a framework to assist you in creating performance test scenarios to resemble realistic environments as closely as possible, which reduces test assumptions and risks.

Q: How are the NV recommendations determined? I.e. how are the set of rules defined? By who?

A: NV validates the application using a list of rules. Each rule is assigned a severity, which is reflected in the calculation of the overall grade. Some of the rules are based on common best practices, found also in YSlow. Others are unique rules based on our own research.

Q: Can you now simulate 1000's of Virtual clients with True Client? How many TC VU can you run on a quad processor with 16 GB machine for example?

A: You can run 20,000 TruClient Vusers. It depends on how many load generators are in use. Some of our customers run thousands of TruClient Vusers with StormRunner. It is hard to determine how many Vusers you can run on a given machine since it may vary between different applications. A quad processor with 16 GB RAM machine, is unable to run a large number of Vusers. As for memory, it may limit to a maximum of 80 Vusers, but the processor might be saturated earlier.
