2010 Cowboy Action Match

Dates:2nd Saturday of each month, registration: 8:00 – 9:00 a.m.; mandatory safety briefing at 9:00 a.m. with shooting starting immediately thereafter

Location:Sir Walter Gun Club range, Creedmoor, N. C. From I-85, take Exit 191 (Butner-Creedmoor Rt 56). Follow Rt 56 East 3.5 miles; turn left at 2nd traffic light. Follow U.S. 15 for 3.5 miles north of Creedmoor, turn right on SR 1129 (Hester Rd), range is 1/2 mile east of U.S. 15 on left. (See map on back) All matches conducted by Sir Walter Shooting Services, Inc. If coming from the East, call for directions.

Eligibility:Match is open to the public and to all interested cowboys/girls. Single Action Shooting Society (S.A.S.S.) membership is highly encouraged but is not mandatory.

Categories:Shooting category is determined by the type of single-action pistol used as well as the shooting style (one or two handed). There are also age based categories (Senior, 49er, Young Guns 13-16, Buckaroo’s 12 and under. There are also categories that have Clothing and Firearm Requirements. All categories are also split according to gender.

Rules:Current S.A.S.S. rules apply. All cowboys/girls will wear cowboy hats, long sleeve shirts and long pants or dresses for ladies, and cowboy style leather boots. Ear and eye protection for competitors/spectators are mandatory. The match is held on a “cold range.” Guns are loaded and unloaded only at designated tables. Equipment:At least have one (1) but it is best to have two (2) S.A.S.S. approved single action pistols (Colt, Colt-clones, Ruger, etc.); one (1) lever action pistol caliber rifle (Winchester 66, 73, 92, 94, Marlins, Italian copies - S.A.S.S. approved); and a shotgun (double without auto-ejectors, lever action (Winchester 87 or clone) or pumps with exposed hammer (e.g., Winchester 97 or clone).

Course of Fire:Six (6) scenarios or more will be available at each match. An explanation of each scenario will be made before shooting the event.
