How to Use the DVD Files

File Types Included
On the DVD Table of Contents you will find a list of the different types of files provided for each campaign piece. Files on the DVD in some cases are more current than the actual files within your binder. If there is a file that we have not provided to you in Quark or InDesign that you would like to have or if you have any questions about using the Quark or InDesign Files please contact Traci at 360-883-2856 or e-mail . Other formats provided are PDF for easy viewing, in JPG, TIFF, EPS picture format, so that you can easily insert graphics and templates into Publisher or Word as well as customizable Publisher files.

Store Logo Usage
The Importance of Your Logo
When designing and printing your marketing pieces remember the importance of including your store logo. Including your store logo is essential in gaining brand recognition with your customers. Also it is a good place to gain customer exposure for your website and blog address.

Campaign Timeline Tools
Timeline Overview
The layout of the calendar dates were designed by the Marketing Committee and from discussions with stores on their monthly marketing plans. From these discussions we analyzed the most effective way to contact customers through various marketing methods and entice them to keep coming back into the store. You can take the plan and use it as it is or develop your own timeline to best fit the operations of your store.

Outlook Calendar Invites
All of the dates found in the calendar section of the binder have been entered into the SPC Office Outlook Calendar. If you would like us to forward the dates to you so that you can save them to your own calendar as a reminder just ask any one of the SPC staff members. You can call the office at 503-685-6161 or you can e-mail any one of us.

Desktop Design Software
Publisher As Your Basic Design Program
Sign and project sheet files were all designed in Publisher. All files are in Publisher 2007 version. For some of you this may mean a need to upgrade your Publisher program. We highly suggest you upgrade due to the intense nature of the graphic files. Publisher 98 does not support large graphic files and removes those files upon attempting to save the file. There are at least 100 Publisher files between all the project sheets and signs included on your DVDs.

How to Use Publisher and Word
We have provided a JPG format of graphic files and templates so that you can easily insert them into Publisher and Word. Simply insert the JPG files into a blank document just as you would insert any other image or picture (Insert>Picture>From File). Then insert a text box over top of the JPG templates to insert your pricing, logo, project instructions, etc. If you have any questions on how to use Word and Publisher to create Marketing Pieces contact Heather, Miranda and Kelli at 503-685-6161 or e-mail .

Installing Fonts Tutorial
How to install a font under Windows?
Unzip the files you have downloaded. Details: Click on the "Download" button, save the zip somewhere on your hard disk, go to the place where it is saved, double-click on the zip to open it, then either click on "Extract all files" or drag and drop the files elsewhere from the zip window (hold down the CTRL key to select several files at once)
For the 20th century versions of Windows you must install an unzip tool first.

Under Windows Vista: Select the font files (.ttf, .otf or .fon) then Right-click > Install

Under any version of Windows: Place the font files (.ttf, .otf or .fon) into the Fonts folder, usually C:\Windows\Fonts or C:\WINNT\Fonts (can be reached as well by the Start Menu > Control Panel > Appearance and Themes > Fonts).
Note that with the internal unzip tool of Windows (unlike Winzip), you cannot install a font by a simple drag and drop of the .ttf from the zip window to the Fonts window. You must first drag and drop it anywhere (for example on the desktop) then into the Fonts folder.
You can also go through: File > Install a new font... in the Fonts folder menu then browse the fonts, instead of drag and drop the fonts into the window. Although this method is laborious, it would seem that it functions better in some cases.

How to install a font under Mac OS?
Mac OS X recognizes TrueType and OpenType fonts (.ttf and .otf) but not the PC bitmap fonts (.fon). Files are compressed, you may need an utility like Stuffit Expander.

Under Mac OS X 10.3 or above (including the FontBook): Double-click the font file > "Install font" button at the bottom of the preview.

Under any version of Mac OS X: Put the files into /Library/Fonts (for all users), or into /Users/Your_username/Library/Fonts (for you only).

Under Mac OS 9 or earlier: The old Mac fonts are not supported anymore at dafont. First, you have to convert the font files (.ttf or .otf) you have downloaded. Then drag the fonts suitcases into the System folder. The system will propose you to add them to the Fonts folder.
