How to make Scrabble Tile Pendants

Flatten Bottle Cap Pendants

Supplies Needed for Scrabble Tiles:

  1. Mod Podge for Paper (Sparkle Mod Podge Optional)
  2. X-acto Knife
  3. ¾ inch or 1.9 cm square punch (2 cm if you can find it)
  4. Glossy Accents
  5. Super Glue
  6. Glue on Bails
  7. Craft Brush
  8. Scrabble Tiles
  9. Images

For the Star Wars Tiles, I used images I found on the Internet; however you can use any kind of paper, light weight greeting cards or photos. To use digital images it is best to get the image as large as you can and scale it down to the needed size (3/4 of an inch).

I obtained scrabble tiles from yard sales and unwanted games. You can order them new from Hasbro from their website. You can find glue on bails in most mass market hobby shops but they will not be cost effective. I ordered mine from an Art Fire Store

It is best to make yourself a template to help you choose your images. I used a scrap piece of chip board and cut out a ¾ inch hole using my punch.

Once you have your images cut out the assembly will be quick and easy. The scrabble tile is actually a fraction smaller then the ¾ inch so play with your image to make sure you have the picture exactly like you want it to be on the finished product. Using the craft brush, brush a light coating of mod podge on the back side of the tile and place your picture on the mod podge. You will need to allow this to air dry about 10 minutes. Using the X-acto Blade, trim off the edges to make the image flush. Apply another light coat of mod podge (or sparkle mod podge) and allow the tile to dry completely.

Once the mod podge is dry, you will need to cover the top of the tile with Glossy Accents. Take your time. Make sure there are no air bubbles in the tip of the Glossy Accents before you start. If there are air bubbles, squeeze a small amount of the Glossy Accents out onto scrap paper. Then apply a line of Glossy Accents around the edge of the tile. Use even pressure to ensure you don’t create air bubbles. Then fill in the center, again ensuring you don’t have air bubbles. Once you have the tile covered, you must let it dry over night or “cure”. The Glossy Accents will be cloudy until it is completely dry, then it will be clear.

On a soft pad (I use an old mouse pad), turn over the tile (picture side down) and place a small amount of super glue on the flat part of the bail and attach to the tile. Use light pressure to hold the bail on the back of the tile for about a minute. Let the tile sit over night and test the bail to make sure it is secure.

The same process is used for the bottle caps pendants however you will need the flattened bottle caps, a 1 inch circle punch and 6mm split rings. I ordered my bottle caps from: I ordered the caps w/o the pre drilled holes and drilled in my own holes and inserted a split ring. This makes the project very cost effective.
