How to Make a Travel Brochure

Microsoft Publisher

You will be choosing a vacation location like Hawaii, Italy, New York, etc. Then you will be gathering information regarding that place like the temperature, scenic locations, activities, cost, best time of year, etc. Be as detailed and as creative as possible and give as much accurate information as possible as well. You will be completing this project in Publisher.

  1. Gather photos and text. Since you are creating a travel brochure, it is likely that you will use many photos to entice readers to visit the destination or choose your travel services. Choose photos that will engage readers, and write text that is easy to read. Gather all of your text and image files into one folder for ease of placing into your Word brochure.
  2. Choose a template. Type in “Brochure” into the top right search box in Word. Choose one of the brochure templates; don't worry if you don't like the design. Templates are useful because they have print margins and folds already built in. Consider choosing a template that suggests traveling or one that evokes the feeling of your destination or services--bright, tropical colors for beach destinations, or maps for general travel brochures.
  3. Use the Brochure Wizard. When you choose a template, you will also see the Brochure Wizard, which will allow you to change content, layout and theme. This is ideal for novice Word users. Remember that you can always change something later if you don't like it. To use the wizard, simply click on different options and see how your brochure changes. In the Content section, you can fill in the form fields with your travel brochure's text.
  4. Customize the brochure by hand. If you would prefer to change colors, fonts and graphics on your own, simply hit the "Save" and "Exit" buttons to close the wizard. Then, use your mouse to click objects. You can move them by clicking, holding, and dragging the object. To change colors, use the options in the Colors, Weights, and Fills palette. To edit font sizes, colors, and typefaces, use the Font palette. Word allows you to undo an action--to do so, simply choose Undo from the Edit menu.
  5. Place your images and text. To insert your travel photos, go to "Insert > Picture > From File." This will bring up a finder window. Locate your image file and hit the "Insert" button. Your photo will appear in the document, and you can adjust the size as you wish. To add text, simply copy it from your original file and paste it into your Word brochure using "Ctrl + C" to copy to select text and "Ctrl + V" to paste it when you've placed the cursor in your travel brochure file.
  6. Adjust the layout and review your brochure. Because your brochure deals with travel, it is important that readers have a balance of informative text and evocative photos. Adjust your brochure content so that photos are near the text that describes them. Be sure that you don't put photos or text more than half an inch from the edge, or they may be cut off in printing. Read your text to make sure that the travel details are clear and cover the necessary facts, and be sure to provide a website or phone number.
  7. Email finished project to
