How to get to the University of Surrey

By Coach

National Express Coach No 030 runs between Victoria Coach Station and Woodbridge Road, Guildford, (opposite Ladymead Retail Park) every two hours from 09.00 to 19.00, Monday to Sunday. The journey time is 60 minutes.

By Air

  • Via London Airport (Heathrow)

Rail-Air is a dedicated coach service which provides a direct link from Heathrow to Woking railway station. Coaches leave from Terminal 4 for Woking railway station every 30 minutes from 07.20 to 23.10, picking up from Terminals 1, 2 and 3. The journey to Woking railway station takes 30-40 minutes. There are frequent trains from Woking to Guildford.

  • Via London Airport (Gatwick)

Gatwick railway station is located in the South Terminal. (It is just a few minutes away from the North Terminal via a transit train link.) Gatwick railway station provides direct rail-air link trains to Guildford hourly between 05.28 and 23.18 weekdays and 05.31 and 23.18 weekends. The journey time is 38 minutes.

Via Stansted Airport

The airport railway station is situated below the terminal building. Train tickets can be purchased at the railway station.

The Stansted Express runs every 15 minutes from 08:00 to 17:00 weekdays and every 30 minutes early morning, evening weekdays and weekends. The journey time is 41 minutes to the City of London, Liverpool Street station.

From London Stansted the first service begins at 06:00 every day and the final train departs at 23:59. The first train departs from London Liverpool Street at 05:00 every day and the last train departs at 23:00.

All trains are air conditioned and have special facilities for disabled people and space for cycles which must be reserved in advance.

From London Liverpool Street catch the London Underground to London Waterloo (first take the westbound Central line to Bank station, then change onto the southbound Northern line to Waterloo). Underground trains run every 10 minutes. From London Waterloo catch a train to Guildford (see By Rail.)

By Rail

Guildford is on the main London (Waterloo) to Portsmouth line. London Waterloo is also the terminus for the Eurostar service to Paris and Brussels.

Fast trains from Waterloo to Guildford take 32 minutes.

By Bus

(If arriving by train leave the station by the footbridge and rear Guildford Park Road exit signposted to the University of Surrey, cross the main road to the bus stop)

Guildford Link Bus (100) runs every ten minutes between the University, the train station, the town and the Spectrum, between 07.30 and 19.30, then half-hourly until 23.00 between Mondays and Saturdays. Fares between the University and the town centre are 50p for a single and 70p for a return.

Arriva bus numbers 17, 27 and 37 also stop outside the station opposite the Guildford Park Road exit and run from the Friary Bus Station to the University campus.

There are several bus stops on campus which are clearly signposted.

By Foot

By foot leave the station by the footbridge and rear Guildford Park Road exit, signposted to the University. Turn right into Guildford Park Road, after 200 yards (just past the Evangelical Church), turn right via Borough Car Park. Walk through the car park and the University Campus is situated at the other end. (It takes about 15 minutes.)

By Taxi

By taxi leave the station at the main exit. The taxi rank is situated just outside the station. It costs approximately £5 to the University and takes 5-10 minutes.

How to get to the University of Surrey

By car

If approaching from London (A3) or the M25 (Junction 10) remain on the A3 until you reach the exit signed to the Cathedral and University. Do not take the exit signed to Guildford. If approaching from the A322 or A323 from Bagshot or Aldershot, at the A3 roundabout take the exit signed to Portsmouth, and then turn off the A3 at the first exit (signed to Cathedral and the University).

If entering Guildford from Horsham (A281) or Godalming (A3100), leave the gyratory system at the exit marked Farnham (A31). After approximately 200 yards, at the mini-roundabout, take the first turning into Guildford Park Road and continue along Madrid Road to The Chase for a mile. At the roundabout take the third exit, into the University entrance.
