This award recognizes an undergraduate woman who demonstrates high mathematical and/or scientific achievement and commitment to social justice and/or women’s and gender studies issues. Sallie Norris Showalter was one of the first ten women admitted to WVU in 1889. She won the freshman math prize in 1890 and was an outspoken advocate for women in higher education.
