leveloverthepast17years solely for their volunteer work.

2. Onceyouhavecompletedyouronlineapplication,go to the “Certification” pageto either email certification instructions to your certifier, or to print them out and hand-deliver them. These instructions will enable your certifier to review your application online. This must be done by November 6, 2012. Your certifier can be your school principal, or the head of oneofthese officially designated local organizations:acounty4-H group, Girl Scout council, American Red Cross chapter, YMCA, oraffiliate of HandsOn Network.

3. Before submitting your application, you and your parent or guardian must complete the student/parent agreement page, which can be found on the last tab of the application.

Your certifiermay select one or more Local Honorees from the applicants in your school or organization, andnominatethem forstate-leveljudging. All state-level honorees will be announced in February. The top middle level and high school applicant in each state and the District of Columbia,calledStateHonorees,will receive an unrestricted award of $1,000, an engraved silver medallion, and anall-expense-paid trip with a parent to Washington, D.C., nextMay 4-7. From two to tenrunners-upineachstate,called Distinguished Finalists, will get bronze medallions. Otherstate-level winnerswillreceive Certificates of Excellence. Finally, ten of the State Honorees will be named America’s toptenyouth volunteers of the year at a special ceremony in Washington, D.C.,on May6, 2013. These National Honorees will be awarded an additional $5,000, gold medallions, crystal trophiesand $5,000 grants for the charities of theirchoice.

Inaddition,allLocalHonoreeswhohavedevotedaminimumnumberofhourstotheir volunteer activities will receive the President’sVolunteerServiceAward.
