Take One:
"How much blacker could this album be? None. None more black."
The very idea ofa "rockumentary," a specialty within the genre of the "mockumentary," is enough to make one wonder. Spinal Tap, The Movie was originally released in ____, before the current fascination with "reality” shows had reached suched maddening peaks. The story of a has-been heavy metal band, Christopher Guest, the screenwriter for Spinal Tap, manages to illustrate the ludicrous nature of a monomaniacal desirefor celebrity and rock-stardom, which, at some level we can all relate to.
(and then I kept writing, and it became much too long, and I deleted it. It was a lot of examples from the film).

Take Two:
The very idea ofa "rockumentary," a special type of "mockumentary," is enough to make one wonder as the band's "critics" do, "on what day did God create Spinal Tap, and why couldn't he have rested on that day?"Spinal Tap, The Movie was originally released in ____, before the current fascination with "realities" of all sorts--virtual, televised, scripted, etc--had reached suched maddening peaks. In this story of a has-been heavy metal band, Christopher Guest, the screenwriter for Spinal Tap, manages to illustrate the ludicrous nature of a monomaniacal desirefor celebrity and rock-stardom, which, at some level we can all relate to.Who hasn't wanted to see themselves onstage, with thousands of fans cheering them on? Who amongst us has never asked themselves: "What would I name my band?"

Take Three:
In his story of a has-been heavy metal band, Christopher Guest, the screenwriter for Spinal Tap, manages to illustrate the ludicrous nature of a egomaniacal desirefor celebrity and rock-stardom, which, at some level most people can all relate to.The film aims to create a new genre--the "rockumentary”—a sub-genre of the "mockumentary," which is itself, a twist on the traditional “documentary.” A bit ahead of its time, Spinal Tap, The Movie was originally released in ____, before the current fascination with "realities" of all sorts--virtual, televised, scripted, etc--had reached suched maddening peaksbecome so widespread. The film’s humor is based on constant gags and low-brow humor, and slowly, the viewer realizes Spinal Tap is one of those bands you can’t help but love, and simultaneously, pity. Especially when the band's "critics" make such acerbic statements as "on what day did God create Spinal Tap, and why couldn't he have rested on that day?"In the end, most viewers probably no longer see much of themselves in the characters, who become more and more eccentric and deluded as the movie progresses.
I also wrote this line, which I thought might fit somewhere…
We all have the desire to be famous, and have spent time dreaming up ways we could become so. Which is why it is both a little funny and a little painful to watch these four people humiliate themselves so.
But I didn’t think it fit.
I also had this line, which I originally thought could be the last line of the intro. But I changed my mind.:
Who among us hasn't wanted to see themselves onstage, with thousands of fans cheering us on? Is there anyone who hasn’t at some point asked themself: "What would I name my band?"

Final Edit
Who among us hasn't wanted to see themselves onstage, with thousands of fans cheering us on? Is there anyone who hasn’t at some point spent an hour or two musing on potential names for their band? The four members of the fictional has-been metal band “Spinal Tap” simply can’t let go of the fantasy.
