Player FAQs

How many players are on the roster?
We carry 25 players. This includes 3 goalies and appropriate mix of defensemen, and forwards. On a week by week basis the coaching staff will determine the 20 players that will suit up to play in games based on past game results and practice performance. Please note we encourage high school eligible players to play for their respective high school team whenever that experience meets their hockey needs.

Are there scholarships available?
The short answer is ‘no’ because this would be a violation of NCAA rules making your player ineligible
for college hockey.

If I get hurt and can’t play any more, move up to a higher league or am released from the Yoopers team, do I get part of my player’s fees back?
Yes. Your team fee will be prorated and a refund of the difference will be made.

Can I be traded to another team?
Technically the league allows for trades to be executed at the discretion of the team. However, the Yoopers philosophy is to ONLY trade a player if a player requests a trade. We feel that once you are on the team, you should be able to "go on with other aspects of your life" school, work and family. Without "fear" of being sent to another location. If a player is requested for a trade then the GM will approach the player and discuss if he wishes to be traded if the player doesn’t want to be traded they will remain with the Yoopers.

When and where do you practice?
We will practice Monday- Friday and sometimes twice a day. The actual days of practice will vary depending on our game schedules. For example, if we have a Sunday night game there will be no practice on Monday. If we have a Friday game there will be no practice on Friday. In addition, all players will be expected to participate in off ice training as a team as scheduled at least 2 times per week. You can look forward to at least 140+ hours of practice during the season. For those electing to go to college during the season Gogebic Community College is the best and closest option. It is located on the same campus and offers a great value. You should NOT schedule classes after 1:00 pm or on Friday afternoon. If you are working the same schedule applies. Do not start after 3:00 Monday-Thursday and no work on Friday-Sunday.

When does the season start?
Our Invite Camp for roster selection is June 28 & 29. Pre-season training begins Monday, August 25th.

How many games do you play?
We play 44 league games beginning in September with the final regular season games taking place in early March. Our games are played on Friday, Saturday evenings and/or on Sundays in the late afternoon or evening. After our regular season, we have our league playoffs with the top two teams advancing to the National Tournament.

How do players get to “away” games?
Each player will supply transportation for in-town games. For out-of-town games, such as Maple Grove, Bloomington, Hudson, Owatonna, Forest lake, Rochester, and Isanti, the team provides a coach bus. After all out-of-town games, the team also provides the players with a post-game meal. All of these costs are included in your player’s fees. The team will pay any over-night trip requiring players’ meals and hotel rooms. Players room together with 4 players per room. Team meals are a planned event for all players.
