INPUT FROM BULGARIA _ IORDAN TRENDAFILOV'S STUDENTS
Slavcho
When I graduate I'll become an architect. I imagine myself building the greatest building in Bulgaria. It will be a very impressive hotel by the sea. That's my dream about my professional success .I hope Bulgarian politicians will do everything possible to make young people stay in Bulgaria so that I will have a reason to keep living in my country and work here. I see how life changes in Bulgaria
and I'm sure when I grow up we'll live almost in the same way other European countries do. After I become an architect and I have the opportunity to practise my profession and to be financially independent I shall get married. I imagine my wife as a smart, bright and beautiful lady. After I get married I'll move to a new bigger house with a swimming pool and big yard where my children can play. If it depends on me I'll have two or three children, two boys and a girl so they can defend her when someone offends her. That's the way I imagine my life as an adult. It’s quite optimistic but I know that by working hard and a little luck it won't be impossible.
Krasimir:
Being an adult is a big responsibility. There are many problems you have to cope with.
As for me I want to continue my education in the US. My favourite universities are MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and Harvard. I have already sent them some information about myself and they replied that they would like to have such a student. But that’s all about my achievements in Mathematics, Music, Physics…
After finishing my education I want to work in a big computer company like IBM, DELL, Microsoft… as a computer programmer. My greatest dream is to work for NASA but need to have American citizenship.
The fact that I talk so much about the US doesn’t mean that I would leave my native country (Bulgaria) forever. After having a solid capital I would like to create some big companies and hotels in Bulgaria.
By that time I think I will have married and I’ll live in a big house on two floors with a small garden in the front and back, like all typical American houses.
Veneta:
I’m a person who wants to succeed in making a career. I imagine that my job will be well-paid and I’ll have a chance to develop and maintain a well rounded personality while making a career. I’ll travel all over the world, because I like it. But I haven’t decided what that job will be, yet. This is very important to me. I’m ready to work hard to have my wish. So it’s one of the things I imagine I’ll do as an adult.
Another thing is having my own big house build which will consist a big swimming-pool – outside, a big garage, because I’ll have more than one car – one sport car, because when I’m nervous I need to drive fast, but for now I only ride fast; one jeep, to use when I go to the mountains; another one for going to work and cars which my husband will have. There will be individual rooms for my children and other rooms that we will need.
I imagine I’ll find a person who will love me and I’ll love him truly. We will understand each other, have a lot of fun together and be faithful – the two of us. Also we will have more than two children and we will look after them by ourselves, I mean without a baby sister.
One of the most important things is that I imagine I’ll succeed in doing these things in Bulgaria. May be I’ll need studying in another country, but I’m not sure about that.
Antoaneta:
I imagine that my life will be a little bit harder, but good enough.
After I finish my education abroad I'll find a good job which I'll like and want to work. After that when I'll have enough professional experience and money I'll open my factory which can make me one of the other important people.
I hope my boyfriend or husband to help me for everything and to be my right hand as the Americans like to say. That's all for my professional life.
Of course I’ll have free time which I’ll spend with my family and my friends, because the life as an adult it's not only work.
And finally but not at last I hope to meet a lot of interesting, new people which will help me when I am in need.
For now this is my view for my life as an adult.
Julia:
I have no idea what I shall be when I grow up to adult. But every child know how hard is to be adult. And at least I know that what I’m going to be tomorrow depends on what I’m going to do today and this is very important thing to know. And if I want to live well as an adult I have to study hard now. But there is a thing which is more important than my career, and that is my family. That’s why I hope I’ll have a nice family, because I need somebody to love and somebody to love me. I know I’ll need somebody to watch over me when I grow up to old, I’ll need somebody to remember who I’ll have been. The only thing I don’t have to hope or guess is I’ll try to be at least a very good adult, and I’ll try to show my children what is good and what is bad, how they have to behave and why that is so. I’ll try to be a good moral teacher. That is a way of making me feel useful-trying to make good people more than bad, because our world needs good people.
Vasilka:
I like my life now…I hope that I will like my life as an adult, too.
First I think that I will make a career and after that I will think about family. But actually I can not be absolutely sure, only time can show me.
About my career…I want to study psychology and jurisprudence in England (actually it does not matter where; I just want to study that!).
May be I will live abroad…but I am not sure about that as I love my country and I want to work here in Bulgaria, because I think that young people can help our country. Bulgarian children are intelligent, clever and sensible that’s why it is really important for our politicians to understand that they should do something to keep them in their native land.
After my quality education and successful career are a fact I will set up a family, because I will be sure that I can offer a good life to them. May be it sounds trite but I know that is the right decision.
I want to have two or three children and of course nice husband who loves me. I want to live in a small town…I suppose that I will have a beautiful house with a big yard. And may be I will have a few dogs and cats, because I like animals.
I will do everything to have a good life because it depends on me.
Ivan Valkov:
It is very hard for me to imagine my life in some years as an adult. But I think that I will win recognition as personality in the society with my good education in the school of Mathematics and in a university. And this project will help me to make contacts with different people in Europe. In my opinion that is the basic thing for good life in the future. On the other hand I imagine simple things like going home after work. There my family is waiting for me. I kiss my wife and my kids and go to watch TV. On weekends I and my family go out of the crowded town and spend it in the mountain.
Mariya Stoyanova:
Of course I can’t say what my life will be, but this is the way I see it.
Until the time I really become an adult I’ll have studied enough and I’ll have a good education.
Now my favourite activity is working on computers and perhaps when I become older I’ll work something related with computers.
At that time I’ll have a kind and intelligent husband with a good job.
I imagine that we’ll be living in a beautiful house in front of the mountain together with our two sweet children. They will be clever and will be good at school.
Our home will be close to the ones of my brother and my parents so that I’ll be able to see them whenever I want to.
I hope I’ll live happily as an adult.
Mihail:
As an adult I will be married to my girlfriend Sonya, she won't work and will look after our five children, I will be a doctor. I will work in my own study and I will be the boss. No one will tell me when to work. My children will have everything they want. I will have a big house away from the city. I will live in Varna, this is a city placed at the seaside and it's very beautiful. I will have German car - BMW or Mercedes. I will have a tiger for a pet. I thing this is the most beautiful animal in th world. I will have lots of friends.
Todor:
As every man I have made plans for my life as an adult. It is hard to be an adult, you have to think and worry about a lot of things.
I imagine myself in a big house, with two children and a beautiful wife our house is near a big city and I have a good work in this city. I have always wanted to play a guitar and to be famous. I imagine myself playing in a band - but this is only a dream. There are a lot of things that I should do before this dream come true. That’s why now I study hard, even in the summer.
Life is something you can't plan or imagine, you don't know what can go wrong or what ca go better. We only can dream about it , but as we all know if you really want this dream to come true it will.
Tanya:
I think that my life as an adult will be very interesting. Every morning I will go to work, because I have to earn money for my family. I will cook meals for all my family. Sometimes I and my husband will go to restaurant or cinema. I will look after my children. The most important thing in my life will be my children and my husband. I think that my life as an adult will make me happy.
Alexandra:
Now I am a child, but after years I will be an adult. I imagine my life as an adult in some different aspects-as a wife, as a mother and as a good professional in my work.
I imagine my life as a good wife who will love her husband and he will love me too, who will be a hard-working housewife, a good mother and everything which makes a good wife.
I will be a good mother and my children will love me, I will try to teach them to respect me and everybody else, because it is a very important part of their upbringing. I will try to be their friend, because in this way they will tell me everything.
I imagine me as a very good lawyer, too. Many people will want me
to be their lawyer.
To conclude I imagine my life as a good adult, a good wife, good mother and a good professional in my work.
Kunka:
I don’t want to be adult, but I will be in few years’ time.
I want to live in my country-Bulgaria, because I can’t imagine living in other country forever. I can study in other country for few years, but I can’t live without my friends and relatives and the nature here. I like everything in my country and I want to help my people.
I’m not sure what I want to work. I think I can work everything-I may be a doctor, an architect or a lawyer, because I am very ambitious and reliable.
I want to have a good and loving husband. I will love him very much. I won’t cook for him, because I dislike cooking.
I also want to have two or three children who I want to culture well. I won’t be harsh on them like my parents aren’t on me.
I imagine only good things for my life as an adult, but God knows if it will be so.
Ivan Dungarov:
I think that everybody had had a period when he or she wanted to become an adult. Yes it is true that it has many priorities but there are some bad things for example there are too many responsibilities that you have to think about. My life as an adult I think I will give to my children everything that my parents had not given to me. I hope my children to think for me that I am good father and I think that this life will look like in some points to my parents’ life. My main purpose will be better future for my children.
Alexandra:
Now I am a child, but after years I will be an adult. I imagine my life as an adult in some different aspects-as a wife, as a mother and as a good professional in my work.

My comments on Iordan Trendafilov’s students
Where are we going to? (tomorrow)
I’ve been reading the paragraphs the Bulgarian students wrote on this particular subject and I think they’ve got extraordinary ideas for the future. I have noticed the element that all of them believe that they will succeed to get a good profession and I totally agree with the great belief in themselves. I also see the Bulgarian students are nearly all loyal citizens to their country. After all there were some elements I didn’t agree with and there were other ideas I thought were really good, so in this short essay I commented about a few of the students.
In life it is important to believe in yourself. One of my mottos is ‘If you believe in yourself nothing is impossible’. And that is one thing I like about Slavcho, his belief in building the greatest and most impressive building in Bulgaria. The way he believes that he will succeed. Something else that struck me was his great optimism towards the future. It’s important to be optimistic, that way you’ll have a better life. His patriotism towards his country is something I like as well. Living in a country without being patriotic to it isn’t something I agree with.
Krasimir started his paragraph with a very important sentence – ‘Being an adult is a big responsibility.’ I totally agree with Krasimir. You’ll never get anywhere without being responsible towards everything you do. Krasimir also said that there will be many problems to cope with and that is true. Problems will grow bigger as an adult but if you’re responsible enough you will be able to cope. Krasimir is not only patriotic but also would like to give his part in making Bulgaria a better country. He doesn’t only wish Bulgaria to be a better country but also wants to help, himself, and I totally agree with that. I also like the way Krasimir looks at both sides of being an adult, the not so good side and the optimistic side.
Krasimir is not like his friend Veneta who seems to just see the good side of being an adult. I see that Veneta is a dreamer. She thinks too much of having a perfect life. She thinks of having a big house, big garage, lots of cars etc. I don’t mean to tell her not to be optimistic about the future but sticking a bit to reality is important as well. I agree with Veneta that parents should look after children by themselves. I can say from my own experience that I am very glad that my parents brought me up without any other person’s help and they are proud of that. I want to feel the same pride when I am older.
I like the way Antoaneta sees life as ‘a little bit hard but good enough’. I like that phrase a lot. It helps to see the optimism and realism at the same time, in the same phrase. Antoaneta said that she would like to get a job she enjoys doing. Money is an important thing but liking your job is important as well and I agree fully with her. I also like the way she’ll spend her free time with her friends and family. It’s important to have free time. After all we’re not robots. Some people expect their lives to be only their job. There is much more to life then your job although it’s one of those important elements in life. I also like the way she’ll spend this free time to visit her friends and family. It’s important to not forget those who helped you walk to success. I also use this saying a lot:
‘Make new friends
But keep the old
The new are silver
The old are gold’

Life as an adult for me is something I think about frequently. I ask myself, what part am I going to play in the world? Can I use my talents for the good of other people around me?
