Sequencing Center Rubric
0-I did nothing.
1-I attempted the center but did not understand and did not ask for teacher help.
2-I read the story and started to sequence the sentence strips but did not finish or I needed teacher help to do the whole center.
3-I read the story, sequenced all the events on sentence strips and checked my work by checking the pages in the story.
4-I did everything to get a 3 and I did extra work like reading a different story and making my own sequencing center.
Top Ten Center Rubric
0-I did nothing.
1-I attempted the center but did not understand and did not ask for teacher help.
2-My list of 10 was half way finished or more or I needed teacher help to complete my list.
3-I completed my list of ten things and I did one extra activity.
4-I did everything to get a 3 and I also completed additional extra activities.
Poetry Center Rubric
0-I did nothing.
1-I attempted the center but did not understand and did not ask for teacher help.
2-I read the poem and filled in some of the blanks and/or I completed the entire thing with teacher help.
3-I completed the entire poem and filled in the blanks on my paper.
4-I did everything to get a 3 and I also did an extra activity. Extra Activities could be: writing my own poem on the same topic, make my own poem with blanks for someone to fill in, completed an I spy, made up my own I spy.
Readers’ Theatre Center Rubric
0-I did nothing.
1-I attempted the center but did not understand and did not ask for teacher help.
2-I read the script at least two times and started the activities and/or I completed the entire thing with teacher help.
3-I read the script at least three times practicing my lines carefully, I completed the activities that go with the script.
4-I did everything to get a 3 and I also did an extra activity. I used the What Can I do When I am Done My Reader’s Theatre list to find an extra activity to do with my script.
Character Study Center Rubric
0-I did nothing.
1-I attempted the center but did not understand and did not ask for teacher help.
2-I read the story and started work on my character study paper and/or I needed help from a teacher to complete the whole center.
3-I read the story and completed my character study paper.
4-I did everything to get a 3 and I also did an extra activity. 1) I chose the character from my character study and wrote a new story about this character. 2) Or I could do another character study about a different character from the story. 3) I could write more character traits about the character I chose.
Research Center Rubric
0-I did nothing.
1-I attempted the center but did not understand and did not ask for teacher help.
2-I read a fact book and started writing facts and/or I needed help from a teacher to complete the whole center.
3-I read a fact book and wrote AT LEAST 6 facts. I put my facts on a storyboard or into a paragraph to show what I learned.
4-I did everything to get a 3 and I completed an extra activity. This could be: writing more facts and adding them to your storyboard or paragraph or creating a diagram.
News Center Rubric
0-I did nothing.
1-I attempted the center but did not understand and did not ask for teacher help.
2-I read the article and tried to complete the news sheet and/or I needed teacher help to complete the center.
3-I read the news article and completed the new sheet.
4-I did everything to get a 3 and I completed an extra activity. This could be: writing more facts you learned from the article, drawing a diagram related to the article or writing your own article.
Listening Center Rubric
0-I did nothing.
1-I attempted the center but did not understand and did not ask for help.
2-I listened to the story and started to complete the comprehension questions and/or I needed teacher help to complete the center.
3-I listened to the story and used the text to complete the comprehension questions.
4-I did everything to get a 3 and I completed an extra activity from the yellow listening center activity cards.
Magazine Pictures Center Rubric
0-I did nothing.
1-I attempted the center but did not understand and did not ask for help.
2-I chose a picture and started to write sentences about that picture and/or I needed teacher help to complete the center.
3-I chose a picture and wrote at least 4 sentences to go with the picture. My sentences had at least 8 words in each.
4-I did everything to get a 3 and I also did extra work of writing a detailed story to go with the picture I chose.
Word Work Center Rubric
0-I did nothing.
1-I attempted the center but did not understand and did not ask for help.
2-I used the rimes and made new words but I was unable to make the words longer or use my words in sentences. And/or I needed teacher help to complete the center.
3-I complete the center by making 10 words using the given rimes and also made these 10 words longer by adding prefixes, suffixes, plurals or blends. I also used some of my words in sentences.
4-I did everything to get a 3. I also did extra work of using the mixed up letters to make a big word then finding smaller words inside the big word I made.
Multiple Meaning Words Center Rubric
0-I did nothing.
1-I attempted the center but did not understand and did not ask for help.
2-I was not able to complete the whole center in the time I was given or I completed the center but had multiple mistakes.
3-I complete the center by matching all multiple
meaning words to their correct meaning.
4-I did everything to get a 3. I also did extra work. I chose a word with more than one meaning. It can be from the words in the center or a word of your choice. I wrote both of the word’s meanings, used the word in a sentence for EACH meaning and drew a picture to go with each meaning.
