Background

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international humanitarian medical aid organization working in more than 65 countries worldwide. Médecins Sans Frontières is neutral, impartial, independent, and not linked to any political party or governmental body. It provides emergency medical assistance to people in need, irrespective of their nationality, race or religion. In 1996, MSF received the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development and in 1999 MSF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. MSF has worked in India since 1999 and provides medical treatment to hundreds of thousands of Indian patients.

MSF provides free-of-charge essential healthcare. MSF runs hospitals and clinics, perform surgery, fight epidemics, operate feeding centres for malnourished children and offer mental healthcare. MSF currently runs projects in the states of Bihar, Manipur, Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir, Chhattisgarh and Telangana. MSF India is one of 24 offices and operational centres in Europe, America, Asia and Australasia, pooling funding, expertise and staff for MSF field operations. MSF India has three key objectives in support of field operations: the recruitment of skilled medical and non-medical staff, the raising of vital funds, and public information work.

GENERAL

Purpose of Post

Maintain the cleanliness of the MSF office and/or houses in the project location

Functional and Hierarchical Lines

Hierarchically and functionally accountable to the Field Admin Fin.

MISSION AND PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES

Cleanliness

·  Assure general cleanliness of entire MSF house/office (including entrances and verandas) on a daily basis, i.e. sweeping, mopping.

·  Assure cleanliness of desks in offices on a daily base and of shelves on a regular basis.

·  Assure cleanliness of all windows on a regular basis.

·  Empty dusty bins of all rooms on a daily basis.

·  Remove glasses and cups from all offices and ensure that there are always clean available.

·  Ensure with logistics department, if needed, that all waste material is disposed on time.

·  Wash and iron clothes, bed sheets, towels and other linen of the house on a regular basis.

·  Cleans cooker, fridge, cupboards and other kitchen material and equipment on a regular basis.

·  Assures cleanliness of kitchen and dining room.

Water

·  Clean water filters for potable water on a regular basis and change them whenever necessary.

·  Boil water daily always using filters calculating needs for all staff.

·  Assure that there is always enough water for bathrooms in tanks.

Beds

·  Make beds daily and change bed sheets, towels, and other linen in the house on a regular basis.

·  Ensure changing of bed sheets and towels on time when visitors come and leave.

·  Ensure that mosquito nets are in place and contact line manager when it is needed to change them.

Equipment

·  Look after all equipment provided.

·  Ensure that no material is taken out of house without prior authorisation.

·  Ensure together with Storekeeper that all supplies in house/office are restocked on time, i.e. candles, matches, gas, water, toilet paper, soaps, cleaning material, etc.

·  Keep an inventory of MSF linen, i.e. sheets, towels, pillows, blankets, etc. and report items missing or needing repair to line manager.

·  Ensure that toilet paper and soap are always available in bathrooms.

·  Ensure that there is tea, coffee, milk and sugar available during working hours.

·  Know how to use extinguishers as well as know where they are located.

Reporting

·  Ensure that line manager is informed of any problems that might be linked to the house/office as well as problematic equipment or material (ex. broken, missing).

·  Inform line manager of arrival of any materials for house/office cleaning.

·  Ensure that no material is taken out of MSF house/office without prior authorisation.

Others

·  Prevent entry of anyone in the house without prior authorisation by line manager.

·  Be aware of any document regarding detailed responsibilities of house/office keepers (ex. daily tasks).

·  Participate in team meetings and possible trainings.

·  Prepare and offer water, tea or coffee to visitors, if needed.

·  Respect privacy of house residents, i.e. private stuff, clothes, notes.

·  To perform any other tasks as required by your Supervisor

·  To maintain a flexible approach and responds to the needs of the project even if outside of this job description.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

·  Desirable Primary or Higher Secondary School

Work experience

·  Preferably 1 year housekeeping work experience

·  Awareness of basic hygiene

·  Able to respect confidentiality

·  Able to be flexible in taking up tasks outside of regular job responsibilities as required

·  Able to integrate into a multi-cultural team and cooperate with co-workers

·  Punctuality and ability to act with responsibility

Desirable skills

·  Awareness of basic hygiene and ability to act with responsibility

·  Basic English, good understanding of Bengali

·  SALARY: Rupees 9,341 gross per month.
